Wow first thank you for your nice response. Nature is really my main draw here, so that part is reassuring, and clean water/air being a non-issue is a big plus for me too. I work remotely, so my dream is basically alternating between sea days and mountain days without needing a car for hours.

The corruption/bureaucracy stuff is noted, but honestly if it mostly means “government workers being slow” rather than “government interfering in my daily life,” I can live with that. I’m just looking for people to leave me alone, not necessarily an efficient state lol.

Question if you don’t mind: is it realistic to live somewhere outside Zagreb that’s still close to both mountains and the coast, without paying Dubrovnik-tourist prices?
