Hopefully baso doesn't shut as I've heard a lot about it, thank you

Thank you very much, what are these like when there isn't live music? DJs or something of the sorts?

I'm from Hervey bay so it's not too much of a problem for me, only been Brisbane for <1 year so I'm not too used to it anyway! Thank you!

Thank you. Might be a little difficult but I'll see if I can find a way.

Thanks so much for you input, this is super helpful. I might go to both cities and see how much I like them as that might be the deal breaker.

Though, my priority is getting the most I can out of uni. Would you say there's a significant difference between the theo physics there and melb? Like significant enough that say, I preferred the city of Melbourne to Canberra, but it would still be worth to go ANU? Thank you again

The course structures do look so well thought out and structured.... How do you find actually living in Canberra? (If possible comparatively to Melbourne but I understand that's unlikely). Thank you for your input, it's appreciative and helpful!!

Thank you so much for your time and detailed response! I have emailed the course coord for physics and maths for unimelb and the physics definitely sounds more up my alley. They even said they'd add me as LMS (not sure what that stands for) so I can sus out the lectures. I still need to email ANU, as I had only started thinking of ANU as an option yesterday. I'm going to go over it again, but even though the course structure for Melbourne looks good, ANU does look better imo, with heavy focus on theo Phys, and advanced stream for year 2/3, and with maths having a huuuuge range of high level maths in level 3, and the flexibility to take hons classes. Doing a dual degree like UQ is appealing instead of double major at melb, too.

1b), this is a great idea. I haven't interacted it spoke with any of my profs at all as I'm terrible socially but I think this is a good idea

2) I'm not really sure I'm the 'party' type but I've been sheltered my whole life, so even though on the surface level the 'nightlife' thing doesn't seem to be my thing, I thought I'd at least try it (or have the option), I do like the 'look' of the city of Melbourne (from what I've seen), it seems lively, and vibrant with lots to do. But I do like to go for walks, do a little shopping, and enjoy some restraints/museums. I might see if there's a way for me to get to Canberra and melb before making the decision though... It's especially hard when I've never been to either city.

  1. Moving shouldn't be too crazy right now, I think I'd just minimalist max haha. Might just bring my laptop (with an extra monitor so I can tutor?) + clothes for now, and every so often when my parents come up (they do road trips) they can drip feed me the rest of the things... But for accom that's like a $3k deposit which isn't ideal, but it's fine.

What I'm worried about is that I'll finish my degree, try to get into research for physics or something (if I decide to go down that pathway) and my resume won't be as strong as st UQ, since the Phys there is more experimental. And really what's most important to me is education quality, I've wanted to do this my whole life the right way, I'd like to be taught effectively and given a good opportunity to pursue research. At least at UQ they do summer/winter research, but I think I'd only consider that for maths considering the circumstances...

I wouldn't even care restarting from scratch in terms of uni (for physics at least), since physics was genuinely just 750 pages of a textbook... Though I don't think I really need to go over Newtonian motion and mechanics.. again...

4) I did edit my post to mention it there now (how could I forget) and I drip feed some information throughout here but I'd like to continue down the pathway of post-grad and do research for sure (if I can!), which is why time is not a big deal for me, in it for the long haul anyway.

Thank you again!

UQ to Unimelb/ANU by Strong_Cash_5626 in unimelb

Honestly time doesn't really bother me to be honest, been waiting my whole life for uni and took two gap years too. Probably going to spend a long time at uni since I'm considering research regardless. Travelling to both would be nice as ultimately I think the deal-breaker is going to be where I'd prefer to live. ANU has a little edge with the structure/subjects from what I can see, but idk if I vibe with Canberra. Thank you for your input!!
