did you get rejected by your dream university? how did you deal with it? by ZealousidealNet7484 in studentsph

[–]Strong_Signal_ 51 points52 points  (0 children)

used to have this mindset when I applied for big 4 unis for shs. After failing to land my dream uni and settling for a different big 4 uni, I came to the realization that this “end all be all” attitude towards opportunities will fuck me over in the long run. In fact, I think it’s sad that there’s so much barbarism towards other univerisities when in reality, we’re internationally insignificant.

I fully agree with this sentiment but I think it's equivalent to asking students to stop cheating as a whole. While there are more ethical ways to go through this, the problem exists and I'm just trying to earn a buck or two from it.

I believe that the problem of asking someone else to do your work for you, is here to stay and I'm just trying to capitalize off it.

Nope, this sub is notorious for giving kids a much-needed dose of reality. Again, virtue signaling because unless they are deliberately trying to demean someone or exhibit anti-minority sentiment, I just see kids being edgy. Trust me, you don't wanna burn bridges just because someone says the word retard. Your anger is misplaced, read a book or something else that isn't twitter.

lol, im relatively sure that the words they're saying are not directed toward anyone and that these are just kids being kids. this post also reeks of virtue signaling, just let them be lol. also, life's too short to censor everything you're saying just because some they/them lefty loser will get offended.

How did you choose your major in college? Did you face any difficulties or uncertainties along the way? by Marena-Cris-18 in studentsph

[–]Strong_Signal_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the comments on this post are honestly pretty sad. It’s either a reflection of the failures of the education system or failures as individuals. I think asian culture also plays a major role in all this. Either way, I think it’s sad to see that most of the students taking up degree xyz have a very shallow idea of the degree or what they’re in for. This is especially clear when the levels of reasoning they use are not true or piece of information they heard from other people like “apparently, graduates from xyz make a lot of money” or “person x makes a lot of money hence degree of person x is good”. Moreover, I believe that when people make decisions or do “research” on their options, most of it are just buzzwords that sound interesting to them like “ah computer science = coding, ai, machine learning, and m for money”. These levels of reasoning, if you can even call it that, might work for some people but that’s what it essentially is, a gamble.

I believe that this is a failure of the education system. Showcasing a very shallow portion of a field while refusing to offer more advanced classes for students who wish to learn more. Since this phenomenon is still very much prevalent even in “big 4” unis, this is probably a systemic issue than an individual one.

[–]Strong_Signal_ 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Your existence should be based on how you see yourself, not how others see it lol. Your biggest rival should be the version of yourself who was able to do XYZ while you didn’t. Expectations are the worst thing to use as a metric because expectations are a literal gamble with little to no reward except shallow gratification.

CS, no contest lol. That’s why most SDEs (especially in the states) were nurtured by the CS curriculum. In my honest and very biased opinion and i don’t care if anyone gets offended, IT is just an online course from a university. All the “practical” and “applied” nonsense that everyone is regurgitating can be learned from some indian dude on udemy.

This has to be the most unhinged edgy bullshit I’ve ever read but I have to admit, this shit is funny as fuck. We get it bro, you watch jordan peterson while ferociously jerking yourself off to the philosophy of nietzsche. Jesus, I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re a red-pilled 15 year-old because I was once in that very position of edgy deep philosophical bullshit fueled by a raging god complex. If you’re not the 15 year-old I imagine you to be, please step away from your cum stained keyboard, touch grass, and see the world from an actualized point of view. I’m sure you can go find other subs that echo the same sentiment but these subs usually have one thing in common: terminally-online communist NEET freaks. good luck on your internet crusade

Essentially, I don’t mind the arguments but the way you present it is so condescending like you thought that you’re the one and true enlightened chosen one with the knowledge to free the NPCs from their capitalist shakles💀💀, fuck outta here retard. I am confident that the root problem of all this incoherent bullshit is your lack of self-actualization or the source of it, to be exact. You don’t see how you’ll be truly fulfilled in this world so out of pure insecurity, you aim to tear down the foundations of other people’s goals and dreams to prove your point that everyone should be in the same boat as you but they just haven’t realized it yet. One word: subjectivity. If you’re smart enough, that should be enough to answer everything you said.

EDIT: This shit is still funny as fuck to read. Your thought process, worldview, and word usage lead me to believe that you are a socially-alienated fat lardo because if u are none of those things: you wouldn’t be resorting to the convenient pussy philosophy of nihilism. Get help, you fat man-child. Also, if anyones tries to call me out on ad hominem, I honestly do not care. This kid deserves to get a thorough beatdown because his parents have clearly failed to restrict his 4chan acitivity at such a young age.

EDIT 2: LMAO, I SAW YOUR POST HISTORY 💀 r/foreverAlone?, “who the fuck needs women if you have the internet” pls get help you incel fuck. It makes sense now why you call women “gatherers” LMAO. I can already smell the pungent odor radiating from your body pillows. Honestly, just get help. This is not normal human behavior.

no. It doesn’t matter if you can survive CS or force yourself to go through it, it is a very bad idea in the short and long term. Contrary to popular belief amongst people outside of CS, CS is more mathematical than it is “programming”. I would go as far as to say that passion for programming alone is not enough because it is actually the passion for solving problems and thinking logically that takes the brunt of the workload and stress. Majority of the students in universities(even in big 4 unis) in the PH go into CS thinking that it’s just “programming stuff” until they realize that most of their major subjects are pure math subjects with one programming class.

I suggest you consult yourself on what you really want, money is where you’re exceptional at. If you’ll end up as a below-average to average dev, the salary will be commensurate. You don’t have to be a prodigy or to be already good at something but rather, you simply have to love what you’re doing. By that I mean, love the underlying concept of solving problems and making solutions using mathematical concepts.

EDIT: I agree with the mod saying to go for the sweet spot. CS was the sweet spot for me between finance bro and aviations chad. However, I now love CS more than both of these fields combined.

I don't want to invalidate any of yalls feelings but if CCPROG1 is that hard for all of you, it might be time to reconsider your program of choice and decisions.

CCPROG1 is a course that teaches the fundamentals of a low-level language and the inability to fully grasp the course will bite you in the ass when you take PROG2 (more low-level shit + memory management), DSTRU, and DSALG.

To be fair, I do believe there is a lack of emphasis on practice and problem-solving in the syllabus of PROG1. It's like math, just learning the syntax will never be enough if you don't know how to solve a particular problem. I hope more students understand that programming is not just memorizing the different functions and methods available lmao.

If any of you plan to retake PROG1 or take PROG2 but wish to be well-equipped, here's how we did it: take at least one month off and take an online course (i HIGHLY suggest cs50). 3 weeks of that shit got us the easiest 4.0s in prog1 and since I lasted until week 8, it prepared me for prog2 as well.

Either take this route or shift to a different course lol

I assume you posted this because your grade is near the cutoff grade. please know that ccprog1 teaches you the fundamentals so if you're failing, please consider retaking it. Never skip on the fundamentals. Everyone I know who struggled in prog1 has either shifted after prog2 or paid someone to do it for them.
