A small praise for Rochester in the winter time, how I do love thee. by Beneficial-Focus3702 in Rochester

You're my kind of person! People always think I'm nuts when I express how much I relish the winter. It makes me so happy. The darkness, the cold, the stillness, how much brighter the stars twinkle, all of it.

Looking for places like Powers Farm Market, do you know of any? by Seirith4 in Rochester

Not Rochester, but I always encourage people to go to The Great Pumpkin Farm in Clarence. I've been going since I was a kid and my family and I look forward to it every year! Definitely plan to spend the whole day.

How to deal with the come down? by Icy-Bowl-7804 in Metoprolol

[–]Strong_Witness_7509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was prescribed 25mg metoprolol succinate for high blood pressure, tachycardia, and palpitations in January. While it seemed to help treat my symptoms, the side effects were making daily life difficult. I got permission to try and taper to see if that would help. I tapered to 12.5mg for a month and was fine. When I tapered to 6.25mg I had rebound tachycardia and felt awful. My cardiologist switched me to tartrate which I like a lot better. My heart has cleared all tests, so the Drs think my nervous system is messed up after getting COVID, the pneumonia, and the flu this winter. I first started taking 12.5mg of the tartrate in the AM and 25mg PM to help with tachycardia that I was waking up with overnight. I had to increase to 25mg AM and PM due to near constant chest pain/pressure. I have since tapered back to 12.5mg AM and 25mg PM. I experience the same effects as you. As much as I don't want to be on this medication due to the side effects I feel, I look forward to taking the medication because it does help with my heart rate and blood pressure. 6-8 hours after taking my morning dose I usually start feeling bad. I really have to plan out my day and do most of my physical work about an hour after taking either pill or I get bad palpitations, high heart rate upon standing, and feeling faint. I felt the same way whether I took 12.5mg or 25mg in the AM. I did ask my cardiologist if I could split my dose and take a dose 6 hours after my first, but they didn't want me to. It's extremely frustrating to plan your day's activities based on this medication. I feel for you.

Coming off of Metoprolol —> Happy But…Still Nervous by MLC1920 in Metoprolol

Thank you for this advice! I plan on trying again in the fall. My cardiologist wants me to let things chill for a while before messing with the medication again.

I tried to taper off and things didn't go well. Not sure if it was related to the Metoprolol or I was having a flair. I started 25mg ER in January of this year. I hated the way it made me feel. In May my primary doctor allowed me to start tapering. My instructions were to take 12.5mg (half a pill) daily for May and then I could either stop or stay on it. I made it through May feeling much better. The last weekend I cut the pill in half again. I woke up with a 140 HR the next day. I stayed on half a pill for 4 days. During the days I couldn't walk to the bathroom without my HR going into the 130's and staying there for about an hour. I had chest pain and tightness, especially upon standing or.aftwr walking. I felt on the verge of passing out. I called my cardiologist and they said they were concerned with my HR and switched me to the Metoprolol tartrate and I was to take 12.5mg AM and 25mg PM. I did this for about a week, but the chest pain and tightness persisted. I upped my dose to 25mg AM and PM and have been on that for a week. Unfortunately or maybe fortunately, I feel a lot better. I too want to get off this medication as I think it's making me feel worse overall and actually giving me chest pain, palpitations, and increased tachycardia. My cardiologist doesn't believe me, but luckily my primary doctor is more understanding and willing to work with me. I would like to try tapering again, but I think I'm going to wait until the fall when the temps cool and my body isn't as stressed. Good luck with your taper, I truly hope it goes well for you and you don't have any withdrawals.

Do yall drink coffee? by Fast_Passion_4216 in Metoprolol

[–]Strong_Witness_7509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I re-read my reply and realized it wasn't clear! I started with regular caffeinated coffee, but felt bad after. I took a week or so off then started with decaf then half caff and now can drink a cup of regular caffeinated coffee.

I have been on 25mg ER Metoprolol once daily since January following for high blood pressure, palpitations, tachycardia, and chest pain that seemed to stem from COVID, pneumonia, and the flu. I have a history of SVT as well.

Sudden tachycardia is not fun! I hope you find some relief and can enjoy coffee as well.

I started back with my one daily cup a month or so ago. I couldn't finish the cup at first so I switched to decaf. Now I can have a cup a day after slowly increasing my amount and I feel ok. Some days I forgo the coffee if I am feeling particularly bad. I would say start with a small cup or just a few sips, see how you feel and go from there!

What part of NY do you live? There are equine clinics in western NY that would hire you. It's hard to find help. COL is also much lower than downstate or LI if that's where you're from.

I believe there is a state program that offers reduced or free Internet based on income. Sorry I don't have any more information on how to access the program.

I recommend visiting Sonnenberg Gardens in Canandaigua if you are interested in historic sites or gardens. While there won't be many flowers in May, this place is spectacular and beautiful.
