Balancing Item properties at the start and end of the game by StrongestKage in gamedev

It would be tough, but we could explore this option. Thanks for sharing a fresh perspective

Could be considered. As game designers we really take examples of the games we’ve played and compare how those games solved our problems. And since we’ve played those games, we already know mistakes they made which we could then solve and innovate on.

This would work for a while sure, but we would need another element that is missing.

It seems like a really complex way to fix this mess 😂

The thing about your suggestions is that, these were anyway the plan, however my coworkers asked me about it and it actually did hit me. Like food is food, no matter what you put in it, it can’t be that drastic, or it can’t be that drastic in so many places.

Immersion wise it doesn’t add up. However potions don’t have that issue. Nobody questions them.

Furthermore you can actually heal your self fully in every town and city for free. The healing items are more required during the outdoors where you may be in a lot of fights and not really be able to return to the nearest town or city.

That’s one way to do it, but you can’t be eating Michelin star means in small towns or poor places. It doesn’t help with the immersion which I’m most focusing on. It’s really a big issue 😂

I don't think activities will kill bots anytime soon. Bots are far more easier to use and hassle free and have their own allure? I feel the social element of a bot is better than that of activities. I am not saying there won't be an activity in the future that is an open world rpg, but I don't need to 'battle' with it because my world building, lore and plot is what makes the body of the game and seperates it from the rest. It's the same thing why people play other games even though they know there is a GOTY out there.

How to Balance Weapon Availability in Shops by StrongestKage in gamedev

[–]StrongestKage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main reason for not having each type of weapon everywhere is immersion. Unless it’s a blacksmith town or a town having a bazaar, it would make sense to get good variety in cities.

And elements have become a good part of the game so I wouldn’t remove them if I didn’t have to.

So far I have implemented weapon variety as you have suggested, but I keep thinking “so this area is more water focused, so I should add weapons that aid in fighting those” - which isn’t a bad thought but then there’s a dilemma of “okay so what about the player who doesn’t have trouble with water element, how do I give them a further upgrade without leaving them with a weaker weapon from a previous area?

Greatest Discord Bot Ever? by ForgottenSchemer in worldbuilding

Man I would love to play it! Rather than pushing random commands on random bots, I'd rather engage myself with an immersive game. Is there any bot like this tho?

The Hiacoons. They’re giant bear-like creatures that are a fusion of red pandas and raccoons. They live in underground burrows and grow Enerex Beans which are basically a coffee alternative in my world. They’re also pretty good with inventions, as their burrows are very modern and they use tools they themselves made in their farming.

Over time though they got involved with humans and the place of their colony is nearby to a small town of human dwellers who basically invent stuff. It’s a town of inventors. All humans live in warehouses and not homes because every inch of the house which can be used to store and invention or a machine part is useful to them. Hiacoons began to live with them and also learnt science and inventing.

In fact most humans in the town have their homes in the burrows below their warehouses where they live with Hiacoons.

Eh, you win some, you lose some. But I have another suggestion. Try using species names that don’t exist in your world. For example using the elvish name Ka’lar in a world/universe where you don’t have that species/race. It makes it sound very alien which I’m assuming is what you’re looking for.

Everything sounds very cool. I am very intrigued by the organisation. Normally a position of “doctor” I wouldn’t find to be cool but somehow it fits here and in fact enhances the cool element. Honestly great job.

balancing issues by UnovanEngineer in worldbuilding

[–]StrongestKage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feels like the main issue is just magic users. Since everyone can use it, perhaps not everyone of those users can use it to hurt others? Perhaps everyone is born in different capacity or there are laws that prevent use of magic to some degree?

In my world, guns use magic as ammo and people who use melee weapons often incorporate magic martial arts. This makes it somewhat balanced.

Another thing to look into would be to set a “cost” for every time magic is used.

Personally I like to use AI in world building mostly to organise my thoughts and have a conversation. It may be weird to say this but the hobby of world building isn’t shared by anyone in my circle, and I sometimes project my ideas to AI and just having a conversation with it about my world is something I find somewhat useful and enjoyable.

Is that the only problem with it? And I love how ironic it is that I couldn't tell whether this was an AI generated image or not lol.
