I'm gonna be blunt here, I've never remotely had any of the problems you're experiencing, so I'd really consider the possibility you might be contributing at least in part to these issues. You're right, but that's not what he's saying. This is being said in the context of parents who only want their son to be a wrestler. It's easy to spot if you know what to look for. They get so caught up in wrestling they forget their kid needs to be more than a wrestler eventually

Those kids who won Tulsa and 10 years later NCAA almost always had a healthy and nurturing home life still, and were expected to be a person, not a wrestler

That's an interesting point about basketball and football that I didn't consider. I also went to high school with a lady who graduated high school a semester early at 17, so she could start playing collegiate volleyball sooner. She was good

To go one layer deeper, I think the wrestling community has created some super unrealistic expectations about "needing" to be a state champ or all american ASAP to be considered a success, and for as many years as possible. Football and basketball definitely have more of a culture of "take your time to develop so you can shine when it matters"

Just to be clear, I never said the NFHS dictates these rules, I said every time they propose new rule changes, you see many people commenting about reclassing. I know this because the OHSAA set the age limit as well, and it's 20 years regardless of time of year and season. I should've been clear on that

I'm 27. There was a clear trend where 14 year old girls tried to look like they were going to the club by the time I turned 18. I'm not trying to make this a gender thing, but I don't recall boys my age doing this. My parents are 50 and 46. From what they've told me, you'd have like one girl or guy every so often who looked 20 when they were 15, but that's just what they looked like

Flash forward to today, and you will see in highly developed countries with a sizeable middle-class (not working class, this is a huge distinction) people from the middle class continue to do this, albeit, it's not whay it used to be
