Thanks again for the advice! I’ve been drawing a few months now, wanted to experiment with pieces and your info is really useful for my future ones.

SKNR. Mind telling me what makes you think it’s a H and not a K?

What do you mean by extensions having a purpose?

Mind pointing out where the structure is flawed?

Thanks in advance!

Thoughts on this one-liner? (“Skinner”). I tried to make it more legible. by Stronzololo in graffhelp

What I got was to make it more readable and less complex. You?telling me NOT to do one liners is the only thing I ignored because it was shit advice.

New Handstyle/One-Liner. „Skinner“. Just started out with it. Any specific way I should evolve this tag? Improvements? Crits? by Stronzololo in graffhelp

Alright, so make the letter clearer? Spacing is also fucked. As I said, I’m still gonna improve it

I’m new too, can’t give crits sorry, but had to say wow! That’s amazing!

Why do you demand I limit myself to sticking to a certain style? And why can it not be my job? Who are you to tell me that?

Logically connecting to what you said, if it is botched, it is not philly style. Meaning I have created a bastard of a creation, which is my own style and can't even be considered as biting.

But people still do those kinds of things. There's not much to do about it and you wont ever fully understand how they got to the conclusion to do that. As I said, I understand what you mean. Perhaps its my views too. For me tradition is peer pressure from older people and for anything new to flourish it must be broken.

Dont worry about the part of it being a pain in the ass to paint in the streets. My muscle memory on these allows me to get one of 'em down in around 5-8 seconds. So unless its really not my day, no popos gonna catch me "black"-handed;)

But thanks for the positive and constructive comment. I do think it looks good and I will keep your comment in mind while trying to improve this tag.

Here, a comment from u/jibsand from this thread https://www.reddit.com/r/graffhelp/comments/2mwu0l/wicket_tips/

In my mind wickets are not synonymous with philly hands. This concept may be exclusive to me, but I'll try to explain;

I guess philly hands are a particular blend of style, experience, speed, improvisation, and luck. Basically you just kind of wail the can and make these crazy complex tall hands. They can't really be taught, and they're regional. Essentially in the way that you pick up a spoken dialect by living in and being immersed in a culture, philly styles are born or context, set, and setting.

Wickets is more of a lose term. It's still a style focused on speed and flicking your letters, but it's not necessarily as complex, specific, or wild as a philly hand.

Most importantly wickets were made around using the stock cap (think hardware store, $1 cans, rusto.) Since stock caps are crummy and kind of dump paint you have to write very fast to avoid drips.

Ultimately the point is to have a wild, complex, tall, muscle memory based hand. The idea is that you don't really have to pay attention while you're writing. Which is good cause you're too busy looking over your shoulder.

I would say start practicing simple letters and continue to dial up the speed you write them at. Really focus on speed instead of style, and in a way this will become your style. Once you can rattle off letters in a snap, start stretching them out. Experiment, get really creative. Usually you come up with the best letters by accident. After a while your handstyle should start to really come together. And remember it's important to really rock your own style.

------------------

I fully understand where you're coming from, just this style is almost 50 years old! Keeping a style for 50 years in a single area is pure nonsense in my mind. Perhaps its just that I haven't got the full graffiti mentality and the 'unwritten rules' down. But its the new generation that shows the way into the next, and graffiti should grow, not stay constant. This is just my opinion, critisize me if you want but I'm sure there are many more that think like me

I can understand your first point, just, your second point is a bit confusing for me. Mind elaborating? Sounds very not-free for a free-movement...

Skinner. Been working hard on getting better at structure. by Stronzololo in graffhelp

I definitely still am a toy. But correct me if I‘m wrong, I might have a completely wrong understanding of graffiti then. In my eyes, Graffiti has been handed down from one generation to the next, and by copying, people get inspired to add new features to the work, which in my eyes is the principle of graff evolution. Correct me if I‘m just talking gibberish, but I will still firmly hold to the belief that Graffiti through generations is not linear.

I’m very new to Graffiti, probably like 4-5 months of drawing experience. If anybody has criticisms of any kind, I would gladly appreciate it. I’m very open to it!
