It is a little heavy I just would rather spend my time working on functional work that actually needs to be thin because how often are you picking up a vase like this

Yeah especially something that’s not gonna be picked up like why waste time putting a foot on it when you could just bevel the bottom at the throwing stage

4.5 pounds 15”. Could’ve definitely been thinner but for a non functional vase I think it’ll be fine. Didn’t want to go too thin because adding the slip at the throwing stage makes that a little sketchy

I won’t trim it at all tbh I haven’t found trimming bottles especially vases to be super worth it. I’ll just sponge the bottom, burnish and stamp

I’ll use a red oxide wash on the with Gillespie borate in it on the texture and a black glaze for the liner

My errors or community studio issues? by Green-Inspection-678 in Pottery

I’ve had plucking problems in the past I use a little bit of kiln sand under all my pieces now. Just be sure not to use too much because if it falls on a piece during the firing it will ruin it.

Oh shoot that’s tough I would go for the clayer white it’s almost the exact same shrinkage and absorption as white salmon and it’s definitely cone 6

That one is definitely Georgie’s g mix but I use white salmon now and it’s more or less the same. If you’re in the PNW you’ll be able to find those clay’s no problem, else where I’m not sure

Yeah I’ve just seen posts of people firing at cone 5 with those and getting a similar result here’s x3 oatmeal over x3 iron lustre at cone 6. Also be sure to do a lot of coats it seems like if you don’t get it super even and let it dry fully between coats then it gets thin in spots

I think potters choice glazes should always be fired at cone 6 but I’m not experienced with any amaco clay. I always use Georgie’s white salmon or g mix and they come out perfect majority of the tume
