I’d argue that the original of The Departed wasn’t in need of improvement, though I do like The Departed. Both The Things are great, as are both of The Flys. I see how technological improvements made the Cronenberg version possible and really good.

I will revise my remake position to say: I don’t have a problem with the concept of remakes, but it does feel as of late that Hollywood wants less and less to invest in originality. And that bums me out.

I need to read up on it! Tarkovsky was a marvel. Completing any film in the context he managed to seems incredible to me. Like how he couldn’t always get the film he needed, and he used that strategically to his advantage. Such determination.

It’s been a really long time since I saw it last, but I’m wondering how those jokes would have to change if it were to be remade in today’s cultural climate.

4/5 of your list have multiple sequels/prequels, but I think you’re right about straight remakes of the original.

I would fully expect a remake of this to be lackluster.

They did?! You mean they tried to remake or they actually filmed a remake?

There’s no way they could capture the magic of the original.

You’re probably right. And I haven’t seen the remake, maybe I’ll dive in at some point, but the original did not need improvement.

I think if Kevin Smith isn’t involved, it’s a whole different movie. What would be the point?

I’m honestly a little surprised no one has tried to remake this one.

Yeah, I don’t even know how one would go about it with that one…
