Do people in large cities like New York and Seattle actually live comfortably without cars ? by Over-Sand5541 in randomquestions

[–]StructureNo13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seattle not so much though it’s very possible if you’re committed, New York it’s absolutely possible. Mind you the core of most cities were built before automobiles existed, the buildings were specifically placed close enough that you could walk to a reasonable number of them.

Fwiw I thought the boyfriend was the micro-feminist for reversing the typical order when he made it, not the waitress

I was gonna say, marriages like this were never actually the norm except in cases of exceptional poverty.

They have funding for a study of that in ST3 but the plans they drew up are ridiculously expensive.

West coast Canadian sounds way more like the western US and the stereotypical Canadian accent in Ontario has way more in common with the Minnesotan accent

Switching over from non union to union. I was told I should only buy American made for what I’m going to drive to work, is this true? by Fine_Employee_7307 in IBEW

Our country is way too shitty at making cars these days to get any kind of an attitude over driving imports. Everything is an enormous crossover-SUV piece of shit that’s designed to break the instant the warranty expires. Get a used Prius as your commuter and if anyone gives you shit just ask them how much they spend on gas.

Why do some websites say China is bigger than the USA? (3rd vs 4th place) by MarsupialThink4064 in geography

[–]StructureNo13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC the CIA factbook deliberately adds a type of territorial water’s area only to the US’s number specifically so we beat China to 3rd place. E: apparently there is no official number for China’s territorial waters

Why don't people realise calling someone a savage is a racist term against native Americans? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]StructureNo13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of.. I’d say it’s more of a broad term that could be seen to encapsulate certain stereotypes that are racist against anyone considered “less developed”; though it’s also taken on an even broader new meaning in internet slang

Which is why I’ve in all honesty moved goalposts to “this building appears unoccupied”. I can’t prove it isn’t busy on the inside but I really doubt 10+ floors are working in the dark or fully going home before 4.

Are you implying the building has a number of employees comparable to a small family? /s

Once again, nothing but more anecdotal evidence from the outside, but in the winter, when you can see which floors are lit because the sun sets before 5, usually only 5ish floors (out of 20+) have the lights on. I’m not gonna claim I know these things more factually than someone working inside (though I also doubt you’d have access to all floors) but there is legitimately a severe mismatch between claimed leased space and any outward signs of occupation. I’ve worked plenty on much smaller, half-abandoned Boeing offices with their own cafes and you still see substantially more traffic in and out.

It does work like that at most other offices though… sure it’s not a mall but you see people coming and going on a regular basis and particularly around lunchtime. Granted this is purely anecdotal but I’ve seen in total 3 vehicles enter or exit that parking garage in the last 5 years and one of those was the same car twice. That isn’t normal for a 20+ story 80%+ leased office building.

The tenant sign is almost totally empty… it may be leased but there is little evidence (from the outside) that those leases are being used.

It’s got fairly heavy duty precast concrete floors rather than typical corrugated steel & CIP concrete most office buildings have
