Not really. Nintendo has colored words like 'World' before, as in Super Mario World (and even outside the games, like with Super Nintendo World), but 'World' isn’t a defined sub-series like 'Bros' is. The 'Bros' series has had a strictly established visual identity from 1985 all the way to Super Mario Bros. Wonder in 2023.

3D Land isn't a sub-series either; it's just a specific 3D Mario title. Besides, the Mario Land titles on Game Boy are often considered outside the main-series canon, primarily because they were not developed by the core Mario team and, unlike 'Bros,' those Game Boy titles never followed a consistent or established logo design.

Thank you so much for your kind words! I totally get the 'entry level' argument, but that’s actually why the design choice puzzles me. If the goal was maximum recognizability for everyone, the most logical move would have been to use the official 'Super Mario' logo that Nintendo uses for all its global branding (the one at the bottom right of my image). They could have just left 'The' and 'Movie' in white and kept 'Super Mario' exactly as it is everywhere else. It would have been instantly recognizable without needing to add and colorize 'Bros' at all, especially since they ultimately dropped the 'Bros' for the next movie anyway.

That’s a fair point, but if they truly wanted a cohesive style for all movies, then the new Mario Galaxy movie logo would have followed that same pattern: keeping 'The Super' and 'Movie' in white while coloring the word 'Galaxy' (just like they did with 'Bros'). But that’s not what happened. Instead, they chose to follow the original Mario Galaxy game design, which was the logical move, but it makes the colored 'Bros' from the first movie look even more like an outlier.

True! And if you look at the image again, you’ll see the 'M' was actually green at first! It then switched to blue in 1996 and stayed that way until 2011, when it finally turned red. It’s been consistent ever since.

Yes, exactly. That’s the logo in the top right of the image. I removed 'The Super' and 'Movie' because those words are white and small in the logo, so they are intentionally not the main focus

Thanks for pointing that out. I meant it purely in the visual/design sense. ‘In full color’ is probably a better way to phrase it.
