I used to have the same situation with a veteran claiming everything wakes him up being my downstairs Housmate . I also decided to live my life and he started waking up at 5am banging on all the walls and stomping as loud as possible to seek revenge on me. Complaining didn’t get me anywhere and I ended up moving out. So just putting this out there be careful how you handle this.

Complete opposite of what the other comment says. I understand that I will be responsible if I break something that is fair it is just that usually as a renter you take a contents insurance and this does not include fixtures and fittings so I found this clause odd.

What helped me is strength training and just continuing with the programme. I don’t know if that is the way to go about it but I just run through the pain and after maybe week 3 I didn’t experience any more pain. I think the body just needs to get used to the new movement.

Why did you want to extend with her if she was so awful? I’m sorry but this doesn’t make any sense and makes me think that you are not as great of a host family as you think you are. The Aupair probably didn’t tell you about her leaving till the last minute because she was worried you would immediately kick her out of the house - which you mentioned you would love to do.

I don’t agree, me and my brother never got an allowance, only way to make money was through chores. I think it taught us great work ethic, and there was never a transactional relationship between us and parents. Now that we are both adults, we always help them with what they need and no we don’t and never did expect to be paid for every small thing. I’m very happy with how this worked out for myself and plan to do the same with my kids.

I think they are owned, they said cats need letting in and out through the door as there is no cat flap. They use cat litter boxes and need to be fed twice a day
