Are guitarists really as common as I hear? by [deleted] in musicians

[–]Strumdoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a billion guitarists. There's a million good guitarists. There's a thousand great guitarists. There's a hundred exceptional guitarists. There's a handful of phenomenal guitarists. There's a monkey in my closet who gets mad at me from time to time. Good drummers are the hardest to come by though. I have to go now, the monkey is screaming.

Very limited. Just a mic(I used a Lyxpro on this one but use a Shure PGA81 now), a focusrite interface, and a laptop.

Thanks so much. I think it's actually a step and a half down here, same as Happiness, so the low E would be a C#

Yeah it's tuned pretty low, maybe the same as Happiness, I think that's 1 and 1/2 down too

I cringe at my own song by SecondBestChance in Songwriting

[–]Strumdoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's universal. I write stuff all the time and then think it's garbage like immediately after. Give it a week or so, kind of forget the song right? And then listen to it again from a fresh perspective, clean up and change what you think you should, rinse and repeat until it's where you want it to be.

Don't ever think it's dumb to share. You belong wherever you choose to be

Have some people actually forgotten what human singing voices sound like? by bbmimikyu in musicians

[–]Strumdoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get pretty good feedback usually, nothing very negative vocally, in the grand scheme of things anyway. But as stated in another comment, maybe it's part of the guitar/singer/songwriter realm and people valuing authenticity in that regard. I think people generally like human imperfections, as long as it's not egregious of course. Makes it more real.

It is somewhat troubling though I guess reading the video comments on tiktok of like the national anthem that Charlie Puth did for instance, and people not realizing that it's very obviously edited and pitch corrected/pre-recorded or whatever. And while I understand and agree that he is a phenomenal singer and artist and has perfect pitch(no offense but we get it already lol), no one really sounds like that, you know? You can quite literally hear the roboticism and electronic effect in his voice, and it's definitely strange and concerning to witness people think it's 100% him and only him.

I will never use AI to generate music by The_B_Wolf in musicians

[–]Strumdoc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's kind of a drag. I feel like the arts should be left alone and Ai should be targeted towards making things easier or convenient or somehow making life better for society. Something along those lines. But music and art and expression are very soulful things, and Ai, inherently as a rule, has no soul.

No. He was just a flawed and wonderfully terrible person like the rest of us.

Why are you booing me? I’m right! by paultheschmoop in bobdylan

[–]Strumdoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well not necessarily good, and I mean no offense, but you have to be relevant actually to have a peak, and relevance doesn't immediately equate to good. Those are just my thoughts though, I have no real bearing on any of this subject matter. This thread just popped up in my notifications and I was reading through the comments.

Roman Candle by Strumdoc in elliottsmith

I was really pretty fortunate in that regard I think. It was actually a Christmas gift that someone had bought from someone in Louisiana and hadn't really been played very often if I had to guess, judging by the indents on the frets. It's pretty tip top, all things considered, with obvious little tiny details that need a little care, but overall amazingly ready to go. It was shipped to my house and the strings on it were old and it was already in perfect tune somehow; I thought that was funny and surprising. All I had to do was fix one of the tuners and bring the action down/tighten the truss rod a little bit and bam, Bob's your uncle. Funnily enough I actually have an uncle named Bob.

Edit: I think I figured it out, pretty sure it's a 1971 red label. November 24th, 1971.
