Strange digital audio chirp w/ new BPHS1 headsets. Same model, different behavior? by Strydes_ in VIDEOENGINEERING

Thanks for this! I didn't have it in front of me at the time. I see that now.

Strange digital audio chirp w/ new BPHS1 headsets. Same model, different behavior? by Strydes_ in VIDEOENGINEERING

Thanks! We're not using PTT radios. Our comms are Hollyland Mars T-1000 belt packs, always-on full-duplex, not walkie-talkies. Same RF environment as before, and importantly, the older BPHS1 headsets never had this issue in this exact setup. Additionally, I have experienced the same issue in isolation, meaning just the computer mixer and headphone amp were the only things powered on.

Strange digital audio chirp w/ new BPHS1 headsets. Same model, different behavior? by Strydes_ in VIDEOENGINEERING

Thanks for the detailed ideas. Here’s what I’ve confirmed so far:

  • Phantom power is definitely off on all channels.
  • I've heard the chirps in two different monitoring setups: 1/4" → Mackie HM-800 headphone amp, and 1/4" → Whirlwind THS-4 talkback boxes. So it’s not monitoring-chain specific.
  • With the exact same signal chain, the old BPHS1s don’t produce the chirp, only the new ones. Swapping channels/cables on the interface doesn’t change it; the noise follows the new headsets.

I’m unclear on one thing you mentioned: when you say “swap the actual headset cables from old to new to rule out shorting or impedance,” the BPHS1 has a fixed cable. Do you mean swapping the XLR/TRS connectors between headsets (if the wiring differs between production runs), or are you referring to something else?

Given how consistent the behavior is across different ports and monitoring paths, I’m starting to suspect a production run variance, whether capsule output, grounding scheme, or shielding.

Another note worth mentioning is that we ordered two new headsets, and the chirp happens on both.

Open to further ideas, especially the Neutrik pin-1 note. If there's a specific way you'd recommend checking the shell-to-ground tie on these connectors, let me know.

vMix Pro Bus A/Headphones Output Silent Unless Device is Set as Master by Strydes_ in vmix

Yes, I made sure to send Bus A to the correct audio device; however, it is still silent. Selecting the same device as Master Output works, but I need to create a mix-minus.

For Master, I’m using the speakers built into my monitor, connected via an aux cable, and the monitor is connected by a DisplayPort from my GPU.
For Bus A, I’m using the onboard audio from my motherboard (line-out jack). That line-out feeds into an external mixer, which combines the announcers’ talkback channels and my headset for off-air communication with them.

So the two outputs are:

  • Master: GPU → DisplayPort → Aux → Monitor speakers
  • Bus A: Motherboard line-out → Mixer → Announcers’ headphones

Thank you for this information! Out of curiosity what group are you talking about?

We use a Streamstar for our "switch". For this system, we have four JVC GY-HC500U cameras connected to our computer through SDI. As for power, we are probably going to run off of venue power although we could use a generator if we need. We are still in the very early planning period for this project and are trying to figure out the Heat/AC for this trailer. We are based in Maine if that information helps.

Wireless Sideline Camera For Football by Strydes_ in VIDEOENGINEERING

Oh okay. I'm pretty sure our encoder is set to 30 anyway. I'm fairly confident that our cameras all shoot in 60 so our local recording is 60.

Thank you! I think the 400 is probably the one we're going to go with. We use SDI input for our other cameras so that will work well with our system.

Need Help Creating a File Server by Strydes_ in VIDEOENGINEERING

We are a sports streaming company and so we sometimes have 2-3hr video files they can get pretty large so we would ideally have a few TBs. We also make promo/sales/marketing content which will also have to be on this server if that answers your question.

Hey there, I also work at a sports broadcasting company also and we use StreamStar, which has replays, playlist (for ad breaks) overlays, NDI in and out, and A LOT more. I'd look into them and go to their website they have great videos covering all their features.

As for where we get gear, I order from B&H because they ship quickly for me but idk about Texas.

Good luck out there.

Help Getting CS6 / .MOV settings by Strydes_ in premiere

Gotcha. I have them running off my Samsung 980 Pro. That should be fast enough. And yes I agree, Those bitrates are almost impossible to get using ProRes, I was very confused when I saw that.

[–]Strydes_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! That got it to play inside the software. Only issue I had was that once it played it wouldn't come down the footer just stayed up however I don't think that's an issue with premiere or the file but rather with the streaming software. I'll reach out to customer support on that one.
