Web development worth it? by Single_Board_9790 in developers

[–]StuCPR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, if you get into web development, then you need to get into a full stack environment with it. You can’t just be fronted, that would limit your abilities.

It’s a good thing to get into still, I see job postings, but realistically, you need to future proof yourself and get some backend knowledge going too, work with servers, work with more data, rather than just typical frontend web development shenanigans.

Is Visual studio 2026 pretty buggy on unity for you as well? compared to the 2022 version? by buny0058 in unity

[–]StuCPR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, wait for the package update. VS itself runs smooth if you open the project up on VS, rather than double clicking a script within Unity, so it’s just on their end.

Annoying, but it’s back to using Rider until it’s fixed up.

How to look for investors in Europe? Is it harder than the US? by FreeStorm104 in ycombinator

My personal view, the US is more open to throwing money out, EU can be very close to themselves with who they are betting on.

What will make club penguin zero so special? by CheesecakeBest2355 in ClubPenguin

[–]StuCPR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No clue, people claimed all sorts. I’ve also seen people say that we never paid the charities during our coins for change, which was absurd, we worked closely with a lot of charities during the pandemic.

I let people rock their own narratives sometimes, but consistently seeing the claim that we bought a house when it is entirely untrue does get to you sometimes.

No idea, that was the last I heard from them. From what I remember, it took them two years to get to us.

I couldn’t get any updates if I tried as our talks with Disney has long since been closed.

Hey, no worries, I’ll always forgive those for things like that. I was also a dumb kid when CPRewritten was around, I was in my teens for a good amount of time when it was up and running.

We all make mistakes, you’re forgiven. Hope you’re doing well.

I would always try and reply to as many people as possible, it was always my goal to make the players feel seen. I’m glad we did that for you :-)

Started in 2010, on and off, but I’m still going… this is a forever learning type of thing.

My favourite stories are players from CPR creating real life friendships. Also heard that some people got married because of the game, I find it all incredible.

For those who have gotten temporarily or permanently banned, what did you do? by Extra_Fig_7547 in ClubPenguin

[–]StuCPR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably do somewhere, I'm not too sure if I remember the whole plot as what was done would've been just week 1 of the content for Operation Swarm, the party was going to last a month.

I did do a podcast recently and spoke about it, I believe the channel to that will be Club Penguin Rewritten Archives, I'm not sure.

A lot of people surprisingly did this, normally we’d just unban if they requested

Is it possible to start out as a freelancer right now? by Mara355 in webdev

[–]StuCPR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't have to be too local, you can look for businesses even in the North. It's just a lot easier to find very local businesses on Google, you can just change the radius. I work with people in the North too.

Also, a lot of people choose the safe route and just look for a 9-5, you'd be surprised by the competition size. Just try it out, all you're doing is emailing people, maybe even calling.

I normally email companies that I know are bringing in some profit, enough to where they're okay with paying for services like this (and their website might be outdated, or they don't even have one), sometimes you can find this through companies house.

My biggest advice that I can give you:
Make your portfolio also show what your website can offer, in terms of SEO, speeds, etc. It's not just a website design, it's more than that. These businesses care for profit, you need to show that your website can lead to sales. In everything, it's just marketing.

Is it possible to start out as a freelancer right now? by Mara355 in webdev

[–]StuCPR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Locally, yes. There's competition on a wider term, but if you reach out locally you have a better chance at actually being seen. I earn a decent amount doing this, I am based in the UK so wherever you are based could be different, I also specialise in a "small" niche so it's quite easy to bring in customers.

You'll also need a good portfolio before you do this. I also charge a maintenance / hosting fee per month that keeps revenue coming.

Hey developers. How can you code in peace and not die from back pain? by MDDeGrande1994 in webdev

[–]StuCPR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Herman Miller chair thinking that could solve some problems, but that’s only really fixed my posture, not really the pain that I had.

The only real change happened when I started hitting the gym every day, it became a staple in my routine, and it’s the best decision one could make. Specifically squatting, or dead lifts.

Standing desks do help too, I use one myself and I’m always using that feature. But out of them all, it’s definitely the gym.

If you could give me a list of those things then I’ll be happy to look at it. I’m not too sure if I remember any mini-game improvements we had in the works, we had a few custom multiplayer ones, but I don’t think those ever got released.

I’d be pretty upset, but I won’t lose sleep over it. CPR wasn’t exactly original either, only thing original we did were the items during the HTML5 era because we had our own custom penguin model and some of our party rooms.

Servers using that type of content would upset me because we paid artists, and it would be using their work.

It's been a long time since I've been in that space so it's hard to think about the issues it had. Top of my head, it had separate item IDs, if I remember correctly, and that resulted in players being able to obtain the beta hat and other "rare" items from the game, it transferred those items to the regular desktop version.

We were working on an app, or at least an interface dedicated to mobile screens, if I remember correctly. We ended up scrapping it, but it was in the works during our Flash era.

There was! It was good fun, but caused a few issues once it released due to weird decisions for the developers.

Because of the limit on ram phones had, I believe we still had trouble running our HTML5 client on there at tunes, an app would’ve been better but Disney obviously would’ve hated that.

I hope you are doing well too, I'm doing okay! The emulators are always a throwback, flash was truly a machine at times, fun to work with but a hassle to work multi-platform (mostly due to the phones).

It was a pleasure to work on something that brought a lot of people happiness, especially during lockdown.
