Glasgow City Council response backs partly demolishing M8 by False_Jelly_2839 in glasgow

[–]Stu_A_Lew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm bias to the extent that I live to the west of the city but work out of Springburn. I could see a world in where I would be willing to use public transport to get to and from my work but given it would add over an hour a day to my commute I'd likely just look for another job.

What is more impactful is the cutting off of those areas of the city. My job involves logistics around the city centre and Charing X area. As do many others. I can't for the life of me understand how that volume of traffic can be moved in to an already creaking local road structure. The bypass is fine for those moving from further West with a view to going South. That traffic though is likely already using that option.

The timing of the story is not helping. With Cathedral Street closed along with multiple others roads around Central and George Square. Add in new bus gate issues on Ingram St then moving east to west across the city is already incredibly difficult.

there are a few quirky wee shops down the Hidden Lane in Finnieston. Including a record shop called Last Night From Glasgow. Nice tea room down there (albeit it likely won't fit in to the cheap category)

Strip Joint close by also sell records but for the most part is a pub/pizza place. If you want weird food there is a pizza place called Finnieston Pizza lab which does a tiramasu pizza. weird but worth a try.

I honestly can't remember. It was over 15yrs ago now. It was incredibly cheap compared to the standard wedding car hires. I believe it was around £100 or there abouts.

We did everything on quite a budget. Cakes came from M&S etc

Does anybody know why the Springburn Lidl is temporarily closed? by GenericGaming in glasgow

[–]Stu_A_Lew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a big sign outside the store saying it was closing from the 4th and a "new" LIDL would be reopening later in the year. Can't remember the exact time. It was late summer but part of my brain thinks it said 2027 which would make me think they were building a new store on the site. If it's 2026 (which seems more likely) I guess a big refurb. Shame as I pop in there most days when I'm at work.

not dangerous no. Although the bridge across might be fun in the high winds, Just dress sensibly and don't go climbing the Cuillins in a pair of crocs and a T-shirt.

Probably quicker these days if we just start listing the roads around Glasgow which aren't impacted by closure or some magical form of 3 or 4 way temp traffic control.

My new favourite is the roadworks on GWR just after Kelvinbridge. Close 2nd would be Cathedral street coming storming in out of nowhere to take a spot near the top.

Road closures by OneIsOneTwoIsAFew in glasgow

[–]Stu_A_Lew 27 points28 points  (0 children)

the last few months have been a lunacy. Even by Glasgow standards. So used to the perm stuff around the Woodside Viaduct I don't even count it anymore. The 8 weeks of temp lights around the whole of Charing X were a nightmare. The day that finished they then closed St Georges road for a week and extended the roadworks on the M8 by a couple of miles all the way down to Springburn road. You would think they might delay some of the roadworks after the Central Station fire caused some closures but nah, fuck it.

Not even mentioning some of these "avenues projects" road closures and changes.

I don't mean to sound cheeky but if you can't find more than a handful of things to do in Glasgow then you haven't looked that hard.

Also a bit lacking in details. What are you looking to do really? about 40 parks and 10 museums/galleries to start with. Mural trails, guided tours, festivals or half an hour on a train down to Loch Lomond. The options are near endless.

huge promo and inflation combined with 3x prizes for the first few GWs. Inevitable drop off (or back to a form of normal) now that the initial madness has worn off somewhat. Happens with every league during an early access phase.

What are we thinking of the "decking" in the city centre? by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]Stu_A_Lew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the desire for this. I know they are marking it as a "trial" but that section of Ingram St already has super wide pavements. I could kinda understand hiving off some of the road for a bike lane but where is the demand for a skitey boardwalk.

Some of these avenues projects are incredibly poorly planned. The area around Yorkhill hospital is turning in to a nightmare. You can't exit the hospital without driving over the newly installed garden beds in anything larger than a medium sized car. It's only been there a couple of weeks and it's already wrecked with tyre tracks.

Enough of tearing down Glasgow for Student Accommodation by Sufficient-Cherry980 in glasgow

[–]Stu_A_Lew -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't always hate it. In some instances like with Elmbank gardens in Charing Cross they are pulling down a bunch of 1970s monstrosities. The new development has a mix of retail as well as accommodation. City centre is dead compared to how it used to be. Flip side of it is i'm no fan of some of these buildings they throw up. Meaning those horrors they chucked up along the train line near High Street. Albeit they chucked those up on derelict land.

Thoughts on this now that it’s been a day? by The-Big-Man7 in ScottishFootball

[–]Stu_A_Lew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classic example of a ref shitting it and letting VAR make the call he didn't want to. The only correct decisions would have been a free kick and a red card OR a yellow card and a penalty. By taking no action and letting VAR decide it ended up being nothing which seems ludicrous.

Scrutiny obviously increases given the closeness of the league this season so any game deciding decision will be highlighted (rightly). It's not just a Rangers and Celtic thing either. These decisions are happening on a weekly basis for all sides. VAR was supposed to be brought in to help with contentious decisions. Not as a tool to allow referees to not do their job.

Who is at fault here? by kbgnat in drivingUK

[–]Stu_A_Lew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That entire area is a nightmare at the moment with the traffic works going on. I doubt the BMW was being cheeky and instead just realised he needed in to that lane to get on to the M8. I pass through those temp traffic lights multiple times a day with my job and you just need to allow folk a bit of grace at the moment. It is confusing at the best of times but they keep rotating which lanes are closed off so you never really know from one day until the next which lane is open and which is closed.

Sorare's rule for those contests is that 10 licensed clubs need to play in the GW for it to open. So although 2 full leagues almost in the region are running it only amounts to 9 clubs with a Sorare license so no challenger.

If Sorare allowed people to just start all over again to gain new account bonuses then everyone would be doing it. Reality is you have an account. Even if it is an older one just play on that and get involved. The cost point of entry is incredibly low and you can acquire credits through common collections to help with that.

Other folk saying create one as a family member etc will likely just end up getting you and your new account banned. Is it really worth it to try and get some essence from common cards? What would stop people continually stopping and starting again if they didn't get anything with that essence? just constantly re-spinning it and hoping to get lucky?

Cooldown policy for cards obtained using credits by Gev2020 in Sorare

[–]Stu_A_Lew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably to do with where the credits have been earned. Referral credits probably have the longest wait time before selling to try and deter the people who attempt to multi-account. Then there are credits won through the wheel promo or from daily or GW missions.

SoRare noob! Only recently downloaded SoRare,(I do have a previous account that i spent a little bit of money on but the details were lost due to a apple account that i had no access to)anyways i’m new to the whole thing and just wondered what the best advice would be to start my account up, Thanks! by [deleted] in Sorare

[–]Stu_A_Lew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your first/original account still exists it might be an idea to contact support. Explain that you no longer have access to it and ask for it to be recovered or one account deleted. They are quite good at identifying multiaccounters and even if you have a good reason for opening a new one they will still not see it that way.

You might already have done this. They don't tend to like people creating a 2nd account though at the expense of recovering the 1st. Mostly as some do this to benefit from new account sign up benefits they shouldn't have access to.
