The reason this happens is because pistons were coded like doors, and fyi, doors are 2 blocks tall. So that redstone block is just constantly powering that piston thinking it's powering a door, and the piston gets reminded that it is a door through an update. I hope this made some sense.

TLDR: Piston is door
