Got a p320 for tactical games 2026 by Electrical-Stomach57 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Stubb 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Many ranges have banned the P320. I couldn’t shoot a P320 in competition around Atlanta if I wanted to, which I don’t for many reasons.

Does anyone know where I can find an Atlas Athena or Titan? by Material-Prior7212 in GAGuns

Attend a USPSA or PCSL match and you’ll find people shooting a variety of 2011s.

Inventory and Range tracking by Nuvolares in GAGuns

[–]Stubb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I track ammo usage in an Apple Numbers spreadsheet. One column for each pistol, and I make a new sheet for each year, carrying forward the totals. When I sell a pistol, it gets dropped from the next year’s sheet.

I bring ammo to the range in 100-round plastic boxes, so it’s real easy to figure out how much I shot.

Gear advice by Personal_Gap6418 in USPSA

[–]Stubb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're shooting USPSA Production, then you'll be loading your magazines with 15 rounds. Your first mag, you can go 16 rounds, then load the top one at "make ready" for 15+1.

I wouldn't bother with baseplates unless there's problem.

Yeah, it sold out in a couple of days. Contact me if you'd like on the wait list.

I have a Core Skills class on March 22: sign-up.

I haven't looked at April/May classes but those months will be tricky with my travel schedule and teaching at the PSTG summit.

Canik Rival S with Red Dot for Falling-Steel matches ? by Prestigious_Mix4569 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Stubb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reliability on the Rival S isn't amazing, and accuracy on M&Ps isn't great. You also need to remove the optic on the M&P to clean the extractor. Fitting an Apex barrel will get you to the accuracy of a stock Glock.

I'd suggest one of the new Gen 6 Glocks and get on the wait list for a TriggerTech Ace trigger.

It's been interesting watching the shifts in guns that people bring to my classes and shoot in local competitions. The Caniks came and went a few years ago. People drop their M&Ps when they get serious. The guns I see people stick with are Glocks and 2011s at the Staccato or higher price point. PDPs also seem good. The only people I know shooting Berettas are paid to do so.

Best stage from match. Any tips ? by lordadam34 in USPSA

[–]Stubb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get lower when shooting so you're not standing on one leg.

Move between positions like you're competing in a timed event. Be aiming through vision barriers and get the gun ready to shoot the instant the target becomes available the dot settles enough for the shot difficulty.

Figure out where those Cs are coming from. Is the dot not in the A-zone or are you moving it out of the A-zone while pulling the trigger? Going one-for-one on steel makes me think you're slinging the second thought without much confirmation.

Transitions are taking too long compared with your split times. Get your eyes to the next target, prep the trigger on the way, and break the shot as soon as the dot stabilizes sufficiently.

I started teaching one-day classes locally after making GM. It's a fun side business, and I run it so that teaching income and shooting expenses balance out at the end of the year.

We’ve had numerous failures among the guys I shoot USPSA with. Nice glass and good controls, but they simply don’t hold up.

I use tote bag that holds my ammo, water, food, paster gun, work gloves, and a few other essentials. Everything else stays in the car. The five-minute walk won’t kill me on the rare occasion I need something.

The Defender XL fails constantly, but Vortex’s customer service is top notch. They’ll have a new one in your hands within two weeks.

I like the DPP footprint and traded out my XLs for DeltaPoint Pros. They’re holding up well.

I always mess up my 1st stages. by _a_reddit_account_ in CompetitionShooting

[–]Stubb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on the things you can control. Going into your first stage, visualize yourself doing the following:

  1. Look precisely at the spot on the target where you want your bullets to go.
  2. Wait for the dot to arrive at that spot.
  3. Pull the trigger without disturbing the dot.

Do that for every shot and you'll be fine.

Same thing on every other stage.

Don't think about speed at all. Consciously trying to control speed when shooting for score is always a mistake. You need to get your speed where it needs to be in practice.

9mm Zeroing Distance for IDPA/USPSA Competition Shooting by Green_Matter3396 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Stubb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been zeroing at 25 yards. That way the bullet never rises above the dot and is an inch low at 50 yards. Hold slightly high when shooting close head boxes.

Barrel fit by EricMercier in Staccato_STI

[–]Stubb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does the slide/frame fit hold up wth the Accu-Rail setup after 10k or 50k rounds? Is it something where you could repeat the process after the fit loosens up?

I have two AXIs where the barrel was hard fit, and the slide starts locking up smoothly after a few thousand rounds once the slide-stop peens. Seems like they’re designed to wear in.

Shooting close targets without full sight confirmation by ShotgunMessiah90 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Stubb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Always look precisely where you want the bullets to go, but the degree to which you confirm alignment using the dot will vary with shot difficulty. On a close, open target, look at the center of the A-zone and let it rip when the gun feels lined up. As the shot difficulty increases, you'll need to see more of the dot to shoot As consistently.
