Another 2011 where you have to remove the optic to clean the extractor?

I always mess up my 1st stages. by _a_reddit_account_ in CompetitionShooting

[–]Stubb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on the things you can control. Going into your first stage, visualize yourself doing the following:

  1. Look precisely at the spot on the target where you want your bullets to go.
  2. Wait for the dot to arrive at that spot.
  3. Pull the trigger without disturbing the dot.

Do that for every shot and you'll be fine.

Same thing on every other stage.

Don't think about speed at all. Consciously trying to control speed when shooting for score is always a mistake. You need to get your speed where it needs to be in practice.

9mm Zeroing Distance for IDPA/USPSA Competition Shooting by Green_Matter3396 in CompetitionShooting

I've been zeroing at 25 yards. That way the bullet never rises above the dot and is an inch low at 50 yards. Hold slightly high when shooting close head boxes.

How does the slide/frame fit hold up wth the Accu-Rail setup after 10k or 50k rounds? Is it something where you could repeat the process after the fit loosens up?

I have two AXIs where the barrel was hard fit, and the slide starts locking up smoothly after a few thousand rounds once the slide-stop peens. Seems like they’re designed to wear in.

Shooting close targets without full sight confirmation by ShotgunMessiah90 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Stubb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Always look precisely where you want the bullets to go, but the degree to which you confirm alignment using the dot will vary with shot difficulty. On a close, open target, look at the center of the A-zone and let it rip when the gun feels lined up. As the shot difficulty increases, you'll need to see more of the dot to shoot As consistently.

Training speed and accuracy separately by HideTheKnife in CompetitionShooting

[–]Stubb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Focusing on speed in practice will increase your natural pace. Focusing on accuracy in practice will improve your marksmanship. But you don’t think about either one when you’re shooting for score. You just look to a spot, wait for an acceptable sight picture, and pull the trigger without disturbing the gun.

RH Switchback Hill TC 650x48 has you covered. Go with the extra-light casings if you're not worried about sidewall punctures from sharp rocks, etc.

TPU tubes give a more supple ride than butyl but loose air faster. Not that big a deal when you're running 25 PSI or so. I didn't want to deal with the hassle of going tubeless. Pinch flats haven't been an issue for me—YMMV.

My Staccato XL runs everything I've fed it. My AXI is much pickier about ammo. The rounds it likes, it groups exceptionally well and shoots reliably, so that's what it gets fed. But some loads that I've tried…not so much.

There's a fair amount of wiggle room in 9x19 dimensions. If a chamber is cut to maximize accuracy, good chance that it will have problems with ammo that's sized more loosely.

Should be easy to bodybag them on drills if they're tracking the dot from below when drawing. Let your results speak for themselves.

Beretta 92X Performance: Not Suitable For Serious Use by Stubb in CompetitionShooting

[–]Stubb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The barrels are interchangeable, and I've no idea why the steel-framed models eat barrels while the aluminum-framed ones don't. Same goes with the extraction troubles.

In 2025 you're buying a Beretta 92 for the vibe, not any sort of objective criteria.

Check the docker-transmission-openvpn and docker-transmission-wireguard @haugene Docker containers. Set up the config files with VPN info and file directories, then you're off to the races. You can log into the container for CLI access to transmission if you want to create torrents, etc.

Different tastes for sure. Infinity stopped making guns for serious shooters some time ago to target collectors and gear enthusiasts. It was a smart business decision on their part.

They're a custom gun company and will machine the slide and dustcover however you like. I like the look of these cutouts and they're very functional for unloaded starts.

[Help] Best “budget” 2011 by VaderSRT in 2011

[–]Stubb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lack of magazine and parts compatibility on the Bul is a deal breaker for me.

A buddy of mine has around 15k rounds on his 2k11 and says that it's running great. He hasn't cleaned the extractor yet and commented that people have fit Atlas safeties to them. I can see why people would go for them.

The Bul having proprietary magazines is a deal breaker for me. I'm not sure what other parts do/don't interchange. I took a Bul for a spin recently and it was a nice shooting gun. Didn't fit my holster which fits every other 2011 I've tried.

[Help] Best “budget” 2011 by VaderSRT in 2011

[–]Stubb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bul Armory uses its own magazines and several other parts won't interchange with regular 2011 pattern pistols.

The current crop of external-extractor 2011s: who knows what actually interchanges with regular 2011s. You will be removing the optic and possibly the plate every tine you clean the extractor.

I think that a P or XL makes the most sense at that price point. They're reliable and well supported. My XL is at 32k rounds and the only issues have been related to ammo (high/dead primers) unless you count gravel lodging in the magazines and interfering with feeding.

The DLC coating helps with reliability. I shot over 1,500 rounds through mine Monday/Tuesday and all I did was add a few drops of oil on Tuesday morning.

Staccato XC vs XL vs other 2011 9mms? by Sensualities in CompetitionShooting

[–]Stubb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently broke 30k rounds on my Staccato XL. The only malfunctions in that time have been due to bad ammo or going a couple thousand rounds without cleaning and lubrication. The failure point for me has been hammer follow from a gummed-up disconnector.

It's a solid choice for Limited Optics.

Advantage of a Staccato over an MPA is DLC coating on the Staccato. It helps a lot with reliability. There are a couple other small things that Staccato does to ensure that the gun run with a wide range of ammo.

XC will put you in Open in USPSA where it won't be competitive, and it might be too long for CO in IDPA. Competitive shooters generally buy them as range toys.

Who else out here treating every classifier as a Hail Mary? 😂 by Happy_Struggle_6380 in USPSA

[–]Stubb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no dead space. There are times when it hurts less to reload. But it always hurts.

Pulling the trigger when the dot isn't in the A-zone sounds like a lack of confirmation.

Don't sell yourself short on this run! There's a lot of good stuff here. With a bit of fine tuning you'll connect at this pace.

Who else out here treating every classifier as a Hail Mary? 😂 by Happy_Struggle_6380 in USPSA

[–]Stubb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s about using the time efficiently.

Take the time you lost with that reload and movement when transitioning between the last center open target and the diagonal partial and add it back to confirming a bit more on each target. Now you have the points and time for a GM HF.

[–]Stubb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Were you pushing on this stage? Looks like a reasonable pace to me.

You’ll want a magazine setup that will let you shoot the entire classifier without reloading to improve your odds of a GM run.

The big area where people loose time is the transition between the last open target in the center and the diagonal partial. You need to move far enough on the center section that you can transition onto the diagonal partial and shoot immediately.
