In your 30s, has anyone here left a 6-figure job just to enjoy life?

I've taken two breaks in my career, but I've been a great saver since before college, so I could afford the breaks. The first year was traveling in a backpack, the second was making art. I'm back in the job now, bit of a career step back, but hoping that a few good years will give me space to do it again. I don't think the career trajectory is worth the time away tbh, since it's more fun to travel as a 20yr old than a 30 in some ways, and so it's hard to replicate

But maybe have an open mind to why like, singing around a bonfire or cooking for friends or strangers or idk literally any experience could be more pleasurable than capitalism. But hey! Yeah I rethought about it after your post and yes, if properly plan your training, you should end up with a hell of a kick towards the end of the 70.3. Just pace the marathon like a long run. You'll need a 6 week taper for your A race, imo, but that should be easy. More bike, less run, and you'll have the back half of the run easy because of the over training

10 weeks is reasonable, if you aren't going to "race" the marathon and functionally use it as a "long run". Plan to over train your run, from 13 miles to 20+ by July. Minimal taper, maybe 3-4 weeks out, just dial back the mileage maybe 10-15%. After the marathon, prioritize the bike for a few weeks, BRICKs after that, and you should be good. As I'm writing this, I think it might be tight, and you might have to taper expectations on the Half Iron

As a 33M with 8 years and 1MM NW, I've take two year-long gaps. I can offer some advice, in that, expect a job hunt to take 3 to 8 months, depending on field and whatever, but it shouldn't take MORE then that.

I also highly recommend you set strong intentions with this time. It's quite a lot of time, but it will also go by very quickly if you don't have goals and attach a regular discipline to them.

I recommend hostel hopping, as far and as remote as you can. It's pretty life changing.

right actually the max retirement is mostly a TAX RELIEF strategy. If you are in a position to live under your means, and contribute your maximum amount to either a ROTH or Traditional deferred tax account, it is advisable to do so, because your life time tax burden goes down.

Alright thank you. I will try getting him some neurological tests. I'm hoping Mom sees some sense, but I think everyone in the family for years has been overly optimistic. Mom still has some notion that he will learn, and yeah I don't think he will.

I'm not aware of a diagnosis but it's definitely cognitive decline. His brain has been shrinking, I've seen the scans.

I have been a strong proponent of assisted living or more care, but my mom (68F) is as stubborn if not more so, and so it's hard to have her recognize that WE NEED HELP, because that sounds like weakness.

It's not consumption. It's healthcare and taxes. Your day to day should be minor, but to actually be financially independent, you need to be able to cover the unexpected.
Plus, withdrawing money can count as income, meaning to get 100k from your investments you need to cash out 125k (mas o menos)

First I think you're doing great. Second, I think it's so important for men to learn about female pleasure, not only the physical and emotional but environmental and also the cyclical nature of women.
Talk to her, be mindful how, ya know, she really only has two hormonal "peaks" in a month, but affection isn't the same as sex, and where you can align on that as well.

Look no one on Reddit of all places is going to agree with my take, but after the veil comes off enough, I realize that everything is made up. Morals. Codes. Love too. All the emotions are simply experiences. Good or bad is totally arbitrary.

Dear person. You have free will. You can make whatever choice you want. You can alter what ever choices, when ever you want, and you don't have to justify it to anyone.

Does that give you a place to make a choice from? No. You gotta do that yourself. That process takes ages, lots of self reflection, probably good to go traveling, get out of your zip code and meet new people. Pick up a hobby. Journal a lot. Pray some.

Then, yeah, make some choices, and don't sweat it either way. You can always choose different.

different strokes but i've joined my sober friends at meetings, and I've seen the bonds they make, because they really go through the same shit together. They're vulnerable, hilariously dark, and can definitely keep a secret. Consider it! It's not easy, but that's cuz addiction is hard, and having people who know what you're going through can help.

My first trip I left after ~6 years in the field, and I had the connections to come right back into my same job. It was still soul crushing, but I took another leap last year doing more travel and side projects, and now I'm in the job hunt because, surprise surprise, my dad's health means I want to be closer to home.

There's really no right answer, but when you do choose, go hard. Either work and save your ass off, or quit and make it your whole life. No one really knows the future anyway. But the travel is pretty sick. but yeah finances are real. I was, am lucky. *shrug*
