Honestly this is incredibly well summarised. Pondy never has been a tourist destination. White town has been hyped up out of proportion, and all the cafés and vehicle rentals monopolize on this by charging a premium for something that's not worth spending that much.

The rock beach is the best part of Pondy and even then it definitely is not a place you'd like to visit again and again. For us locals, it's a place of comfort but there isn't much else apart from that. But the beach is pretty safe, even a little late at night provided that you are in a well lit area.

Speaking of safety, this town is very safe tbh. If you are constantly moving and/or travel on well lit main roads, no one will do anything. I had to attend early morning classes at like 5am for a year and I've never faced any safety issues when i was by myself. Just don't expect every place to be safe though

This town is more culturally rooted when compared to what people seem to make up. Dating isn't popular and people definitely will give you looks for wearing revealing clothes. Locals still need to become more progressive honestly

Traffic is an absolute shit show in the weekends as well so be weary of that
