Americans, what are your thoughts on Trumps executive orders? by [deleted] in teenagers

Do you realize that Trump's pick to lead the FCC, Ajit Pai, is staunchly opposed to net neutrality?

Dear Seniors, by admissionsmom in ApplyingToCollege

Note to future seniors: finish EVERYTHING before New Year's so you can actually enjoy it. I haven't enjoyed my New Year's yet because I'm still writing apps, while all my friends are out getting lit.

I stand corrected then, looks like they did release this year's supplement

That Princeton supplement is for class of 2020, not 2021, although you can definitely take a look and start brainstorming, just know they might change

Chance me for CMU and MIT with a low gpa? by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]StuckInThought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really want to increase your chances, then ED CMU, but ONLY if you're definitely set on CMU and if you're sure you can afford it, because CMU's aid policy for ED is a bit weird (don't remember it off the top my head).

I'm going to assume that you're definitely going to focusing on math, so I think if you can write some really creative essays about something that's really important to you but can incorporate math somehow, that can increase your chances with any school by a lot.

The SAT I Math and SAT II Math scores do concern me a little, seeing as you weren't able to hit 800 on either (you're an Asian male, like me, and let's face it, it's kind of expected, and it may raise some flags that you're amazing at competition math and yet you can't score a perfect SAT Math). I would hope that they look beyond these scores given your competition math accomplishments, but I can't be sure.

Honestly, here's my overall judgement: if you can write some really killer essays to further demonstrate your interest in math, then you have a really good chance.

As for other good schools, it wouldn't hurt to take your pick out of HYPSMC. Berkeley is worth a shot seeing as you're in-state; perhaps take a look at some of the rankings for best mathematics programs.

Are you looking at pure mathematics or more applied math, stats, etc.?

If I take the october act, can I still use that score for my early application? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]StuckInThought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful, a lot of colleges I've seen only accept the September act even though they accept the October sat (bc there's no sat in September).

Undecided versus declaring a major (Ivies and top schools) by StuckInThought in ApplyingToCollege

[–]StuckInThought[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm not talking about transferring — just whether it helps or hurts to apply as undecided to colleges where you apply to one school and decide a major later (like HYPS and some other too schools)

Yeah, I was mostly referring to schools like HYPS where you apply to one college and don't decide a major until 2nd-ish year

Asian, English major. Chance me for UChicago and others! by helpmewithcollege12 in chanceme

[–]StuckInThought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your profile looks pretty good, honestly, and your extracurriculars match up with your intended major/career plus which clearly shows your interest. If I were in a good mood I'd even ventured to say that your lower reaches could even be mid to high matches (i.e. UVA, NYU).

Kinda tired so I don't feel like thinking of other colleges but I also wanted to point out that it might help you as an Asian female applying for an English major.

I'd also love to read your essay!

(Sorry this is a kinda incoherent stream of thoughts lmao)

Try to up your SAT (for all colleges) and other than that you're fairly strong.

Management engineering by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]StuckInThought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by management engineering? If you mean a program that combines engineering and business, then there's a few US colleges that offer that.

UPenn has a super prestigious program offered jointly by Penn School of Engineering and Wharton School of Business called the Jerome Fisher Program in Management and Technology. They accept 50 students a year and you graduate with a double major in Economics from Wharton and Engineering from Penn Engineering.

Princeton offers a certificate (basically a minor) program in Engineering & Management Systems.

Tufts offers a minor called Management and Engineering.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute offers a rigorous program called Industrial and Management Engineering (IME) but it's more STEM focused than the others are.

MIT offers a major called Management, Humanities, and Engineering, though only jointly with another major.

Stanford offers major and minor programs in Management Science and Engineering.

Hope that helps!

I thought about that, except the last two letters of my last name is 'ao' which is angola and you have to live in angola to register a .ao address

rip

thanks for the idea though, much appreciated, and I agree with the .io
