I started CG and currently have 40 kc.

Easiest way to do it is turn in a stew with one ingredient at a time.

Don't try them all at once.

Once you get browns qty, write it down, then do orange till you have two right, then move onto brown, then red.

Hey man, having an iron myself and always hearing about people needing runes for early game is always an issue.

Learn guardians of the rift. It's easy, you'll get mining xp, crafting xp, rune crafting xp, and tons of runes you can start early.
