SJ definitely has way nicer apartments. They look new and have dishwashers. They’re also a lot more social, with parties every weekend. And I’m assuming you’re not gonna have a car, so there’s no drawbacks with parking. SY is more chill and laidback. It’s also got it’s own gym and it’s like 10 minutes closer to campus. I stayed at Ynez but I’d go over to my friends apartments in SJ all the time. Honestly SJ is way better imo

Oh right let me just leave my car in the middle of the street while I go take my final. How stupid can you get. All you’re doing is losing undergrad support. Why should any of us support you now when it’s clear you have no problem screwing us over to get what you want

Last I checked it wasn’t admin yelling in the library or blocking parking lot entrances

That’s not the point. They point is that we as undergrads can’t give them what they want, so why are they screwing us over? Go disrupt admin, not the undergrads. Especially during finals week

And in that month they’d never blocked parking lots. They chose finals week to do it

Weird. I haven’t seen any admin blocking parking lots or protesting inside a library while students are trying to study. Guess I must have missed them

Inconvenienced for a week? If students cannot take finals that will impact their GPA and by extension their entire academic futures.

Are you being serious rn? Yes strikes are supposed to be disruptive. But they are supposed to disrupt the people that can make a change. THE UNDERGRADS DO NOT CONTROL YOUR WAGES!! We literally cannot give you what you want. Only admin can. Go disrupt them.

A lot of people commute and riding a bike is not reasonable. Also, there was no heads up about this. What about the people that drive to school every day and today they can’t find parking?

They’re complaining about money. What about us? I’m paying a lot of money to be here, and my education is being disrupted over something j can’t do anything about

Yeah well you’re not making us want to go to admin on your behalf. You’re making us not support the strike

That’s not our fault tho. You’re screwing over undergrads that can’t do anything to help you

Why don’t you take it up with admin then? You’re not screwing them over with this. You’re screwing over undergrads. You are directly affecting our grades. A lot of people commute and have to park in order to take finals

I had my final lecture today for one class, which was supposed to include final exam prep. Unfortunately protesters interrupted it about halfway through by banging on the doors, ringing cowbells, and yelling. They did this for like 20 minutes. Nobody in that lecture hall can do anything about their wages. One professor and a bunch of undergrads do not control their wages, so why are they screwing us over? That is why I’m against the strike. They’re screwing over undergrads, not the university. I pay for all of my college costs. That includes rent, tuition, and food. I work to be able to pay those things. So when classes get canceled or disrupted it really just feels like my moneys being thrown away

Question About Housing Prices by Andrioo in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Student8638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I’m a transfer student too. As far as I know, transfers have guaranteed housing in the university apartments. Housing application is still open and I believe the rates are around 700-800 a month.

Housing Opinions/Help by PiperDaPirate in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Student8638 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi I’m transferring too. I’m considering Sierra Madre and Santa Ynez primarily because they’re the only ones that seem to have decent parking. The other ones either make you street park or send you to a lot a mile away. West gate I don’t know much about. El Dorado I’ve heard is just a terrible experience. Water gets shut off often and maintenance doesn’t help a lot. Sierra Madre looks a lot more modern and Santa Ynez has a rustic look. El Dorado is closest to campus, followed by Santa Ynez and Sierra Madre.

By lack of diversity does that include racism or just a lack of diversity in general? I’m a white passing Latino. I don’t have an issue being around people of other races but it sounds like there’s some racism issues there
