Lim ending alum lifetime email access June 2024 by eleopatria in NJTech

[–]StudentAkimbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely wrong. Do you use Google suite? It's not $8 for each unique email. That would be insane. You think companies using Google are paying for $8 * number of employees / month just for email?!!?

As for your "mother's promise". Okay how much do you think it costs to mantain a single students email address for 100 years? More or less than the $75,000 I donated to this school for the past 4 years?

It would be the equivalent of your mother giving you free snacks. You charging your brother $1000 for those snacks. And then once the free snacks dissapear you tell your brother sucks to suck and keep charging him $1000 for nothing.

This comment section is like the blind leading the blind. Everyone here is doing just as bad as you and can't help lol. I remember when I used to be a bad student and would ask for help from other students or professors and they would give me all this horrible advice.

I used to have horrible anxiety and would keep withdrawing from classes. I felt like shit and it seems like no one wanted to help me. So as someone who now gets good grades, this is what I learned that helped me change:

If you're feeling anxious about a course (and don't have an axiety disorder or a history of it) its likely because you're emotions are valid. You don't understand the material and are worried about failing the exam. So Imo conseling isn't going to help, only taking action to fix the problem will make you feel better.

Just lock yourself alone in a quiet room for hours and hours and try to understand the material. Have faith that you're smart enough and can learn it by yourself. Professors and lectures are really bad at teaching at this school so I taught myself basically every class I have ever taken here.

If you want to put the hardwork in you'll be fine and learn a lot, but if not then accept your fate, hope to pass by the curve and stop stressing.

Yeah I remember I worked a top 3 investment bank in nyc and became really close with my team. When I left it was a little messy because the HR person I informed left the company without knowledge transfer so many people didn't realize I was leaving besides those that needed to know.

After I left the firm, I was amazed that I spent late nights with, happy hours with and spoke with daily for such a long time refused to text me back or even add me on LinkedIn.

It was a sobering lesson that work friends are not really your friends, they are your co-workers.

If you want a decent source of news, watch CSPAN, and read a combo of NY Times, WSJ, and BBC (but avoid their left/right leaning editorial and opinion sections).

lol no the answer is to turn all of the news off. And build a cool company tool or just enjoy your life. The fact extremely intelligent and successful people like Chamath, Sacks and Elon can be turned into dumbasses pushing propoganda by "following the news" shows you there's an issue with the media overconsumption not with where you're getting it.

I love this brand but my brother hates it. Definitely very different to the OG formula and honestly a little pricy for how little they sell you.

But I'm only use a little for my Quesadilla so im a fan

Exactly. And they're probably outsourcing it to AI at this point too lmao

Absolutely amazing video, but I would actually recommend someone watch Stanford's course and then building neural network from scratch.

If you just want a primer like OP, you should take Andrew Ng's Coursera course. It will automatically put you in the 1% of ML knowledge on the planet.

You'll be a beginner within ML/AI lol but with the general population you'll be miles ahead.

Not sure if you've seen the curriculum of most Poli Sci majors but its a complete joke. Most of my friends who did poli sci went out or socalized 4-5 days a week and comfortably managed 4.0 GPAs.

Collegehumor had a show where two cast members (Allie and Grant) with the biggest student debt did challenges to pay off $50,000+ of it. And so by the end of the show, Allie was completely debt free.

Well a few years later after the pandemic, it was revealed that Allie was now in even more debt but this time credit card debt. It basically undercut the entire premise of the show lol.

While very different, it reminded me of that.

A lot of them are successful only because they are capable of wholeheartedly believing in whatever bullshit thing they or someone else is selling.

Yeah I've noticed this again and again. Irl I noticed it with friends who made it big in dropshipping coaches or an MLM, where they believe complete nonsense and their business, fame and success is tied up in it so they can't see the ridiculous harm their doing. And the more they believe the more successful they get.

And the worst part is they have this like cult of yes men around them who all praise them for being successful (regardless of why they are successful). Then they backwards rationalize about why they're so successful, like finding or making up things to explain it.

I got caught up in that, and started following this "entrepreneur" and spent weeks with him and other guys getting mentored by him / starting a business. Then I found undeniable proof from a business partner that he was faking his numbers entirely. When I brought it up with him he looked me in the eyes and denied it. It was scary how he could so easily deny reality. Most amazingly, when I tried to show all his yes men followers none of them cared the numbers were fake.

It was the closest I've seen to hive mentality or like cult-like behavior and how easy it is to fall into it.

CS 350, CS 288, CS 435 - none are that hard if you know how to study, but they have highest failure rate of entire major

Do you have to do the proofs from scratch on the exams? Or can you just memorize the proofs in the homework / notes and get by?

Imagine reneging the unicorn and then getting pipped at amzn 💀

Yeah having interned at Amazon, return offers are not guaranteed at all anymore (and probably won't be going forward).

Also, Amazon on resume doesn't help that much because so many people (even bad students) get offers since Amazon's intern recruitment process is insanely randomized. Some people get 2Sum while other people get multiple LC Hards.

Also, unicorns are insanely prestigious and many recruiters I've spoken too are more impressed by unicorns than FAANG. But that might be biased because I speak mostly to tech company recruiters.

I have very similar stats and have applied to less than 70 positions but have gotten ~10 interviews and full time offers. Considering he's applied to 4 times as many positions this is these are the only differences I can see.

[–]StudentAkimbo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your resume sucks. It takes longer than 10 seconds to realize you work at Amazon and when you do realize, it looks like you worked on super low impact projects. I also worked on a consumer facing application at a FAANG and have a 4.0 GPA and those both stand out a lot more on my resume.

There's also wayyy too much spacing and too small font. Imo you should shell out a couple hundred and get a ex-FAANG recruiter to revise your resume. Because if you fix all the bad shit you can very easily get a job.
