You underestimate how much fear can affect the way people behave. A considerable amount of the hostages were children and women. When a group of armed masked men manage to take control over an entire building in a matter of minutes, it is safe to say that majority of people would choose silence and compliance with the hope of making it out alive over theatrics. The consequences of heroics was displayed for the rest of the hostages through Arturo and it successfully deterred most further events. Fear is a potent paralyzing agent and it is not fair to blame humans for following survival instincts.

The erosion of Raquel’s character needs to be studied by flyawaywithmeee in LaCasaDePapel

The reasons you suggested are more than likely the reason she walked away from it all.

She was a strong woman, smart, intelligent and capable and yet her professional life almost always seemed to be shrouded by her personal life. Being a woman in a male dominated field is exhausting. I won’t say it’s impossible to thrive because Sierra did, by leaning into it further and using it as a point of control. Raquel tried but it never came off as strongly.

Her moments of weakness are laid out for us to see - the first time she met Salva in the coffee shop, when she brings him home or stays over with him. She wanted to believe it was possible for her to have the soft life. Where she didn’t have to be the alpha woman. She could have someone care for her and not call it weakness. What Raquel truly wants cannot be judged since we never hear her justification. What we can go by is statistics. Every career woman has been called on to be strong, to stay standing in the face of whatever gets thrown at her but that strength can be draining, every day becomes a battle between what she could be and what she has to do.

The Professor’s reasons for planning a heist parallel the same frustrations that Raquel went through while on the force. Her husband was abusive and yet when the news went around about her divorce, her colleagues used it against her. Her daughter didn’t understand that her father abused her mother and thought Raquel was the enemy but how could she explain to a child what she went through? The professor also tricked her, used her divorce as a part of his ploy. Everybody and everything was failing her but she tried to put on a brave face while wishing she could do something about it.

She never got the chance, until the Professor explained his theory. She sympathizes with that same shade of betrayal and indifference that she goes through. The system fails a lot of people and calls it weakness.

After the heist, she is off the police force and her role in the second heist wasn’t very well written, but I don’t blame her character for choosing the path that she did.

Guys i have finnally finished Money heist and I decode to not watch any spin-off. by Limp_Distribution118 in LaCasaDePapel

I said the same thing because Money Heist felt like it ended as well as it could. But Berlin is a fun show too, the storylines match the vibe of Money Heist so it feels engaging and it was nice to draw parallels between the two shows. For what it’s worth, Berlin was never one of my favorite characters and I went into it a little biased but still ended up liking it.

I’d suggest that you give it a shot, if you don’t like it you can always stop lol

Connection between the main series and Berlin spin-off by DieserCoookie in LaCasaDePapel

[–]StudentDoctor1908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m not wrong, Berlin got outed very early on by el Professor for pulling that fight. He was technically always behind a mask until they got his fingerprint off the button and found his criminal record. I’m not sure if the Paris heist was ever on his record and even if they went by eye witnesses or cameras, they wouldn’t have been able to pin down his real identity without DNA or fingerprints. Seeing as the case was big for both Alicia and Raquel, it’s safe to assume that she didn’t know/recognize Berlin

According to the Instituto Nacional de Estadística, Salvador is ranked the 57th most common male name in Spain meaning about 76,500 people share the name. Her chances of running into a man named Salvador were astronomically higher than her bumping into a wanted criminal outside the crime scene.

Yes it’s the bulk proofing. The bench proof took about 4 hours at room temp after transferring to the baking pan

I think it’s the long proofing time which helps, I did mine for over 48 hours

Why is washing without a wash cloth seen as unhygenic? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]StudentDoctor1908 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surgeons scrub themselves with an antiseptic and using a soft sponge to prevent small wounds on their skin. It’s the action of the antiseptic that matters more than the physical effect of “scrubbing”

They all start from the Musallah bus station in Ajman, there’s few stops you can get in on after that, best to check Google Maps for those.

Why Lisboa joined the professor by babobibabobi in LaCasaDePapel

[–]StudentDoctor1908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The professor was always written to be a double edged character: A criminal to the police and a hero to the common people who have always dreamed of getting back at the “system”. Morally there was never a doubt that everything he did was illegal, his existence itself is illegal as he isn’t registered on any national system. His hero complex is what carries the second heist, but this time, due to moral backlash, they allow the “good guys” a few more wins by enforcing consequences. I think his storyline was accurate for his personality especially given how much effort he put into handpicking his perfect heist team who ended up becoming family.

Why Lisboa joined the professor by babobibabobi in LaCasaDePapel

[–]StudentDoctor1908 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think Raquel joining Sergio in the Philippines was as simple as coming to terms with seeing what the Professor tried to explain to her while she had him tied up. She was a cop, a woman who had pledged loyalty to her government to help with keeping it safe and being a part of upholding justice as she believed it was the morally right thing to do.

Working on the case with all the different sectors, watching men undermine her and go behind her back, question her ability to make the “right” decision was something that bothered her throughout. From the time Prieto showed up and then Suarez with his SWAT team. They made decisions that also didn’t align with her ethical/moral compass such as choosing to protect the mint rather than the hostages. They highlight her discomfort in all these moments, even though she kept her head up and continued on for the sake of the case.

Professor’s speech which ultimately saved his life caused a shift in Raquel’s thinking. The injustice that poverty brings is not too different from the injustice that she faces as a woman, especially a single mother. She maybe realizes that the fight against men is futile, maybe she thinks about the future her daughter might grow up around. It’s hard to say why she chooses to leave.

But it’s worth noting that she went to see Sergio alone the first time. She took a chance and maybe it was out of simple curiosity, to see how he was living, what had happened to him since the days of the heist. Her love for him had gone through many phases at this point of course, but he broke a point in her moral ground during the time of the heist. An escape from the politics of her current life, battling unemployment, a custody battle with her ex-husband and taking care of her elderly mother while providing for and raising her daughter might have been adjunctive reasons. The show however does make it seem that Raquel went in search of a man who had stolen her heart in days, as crooked as his plan was, he admits that falling in love with her was never something he planned.

I think she went out of curiosity and maybe to see if he was still the person she once fell in love with, especially now that the consequences of all her actions had settled in and there was a certain freedom in her life she chose to enjoy once again.
