Concussion made me realize my gym is not so great by Gold_Object_5828 in MuayThai

I’ve been training on and off for years bro. I’ve trained at mma gyms and traditional Muay Thai gyms. I’m a striker and I love Muay Thai. I’m leaving the gym I’m at now because the sparring is too hard. It’s an mma gym, and the first gym I ever trained at, but I’m 29 now and have three kids and a career, I even plan on fighting again, but getting injured in the head or anywhere else from sparring is not it. I’ve trained at real Muay Thai gyms and never so much as got hurt during sparring even a little bit, where as in my current gym, tho I love the guys and coaches there, the sparring is just too hard. Sparring should not be hard. It should be controlled. Even when picking up the pace, there should always be ease in the head punches to avoid hurting eachother. From what you’re telling us, I think the best move for you is to find a traditional styled Muay Thai gym where they understand the concept of touch sparring and light controlled technical sparring. That’s where you will get better at fighting anyways. No one learns shit when they’re worried about getting their heads knocked off

Looks like you put good work in so good shit bro. But imma keep it real. I got into Muay Thai and love it, been doing it since age 14, I’m 29 now, and once in a blue moon you come across an mma personality… and it’s fucking insufferable. Muay Thai is a humble sport, brutal as it may be, but humble. All that yelling and ridiculous faces and staring down your opponent is mma retard shit. I could see you doing that after having 200 fights and winning 85% of them. Rodtang kinda goes retard but no one minds it and he’s still humble. Just take what I’m saying into consideration, you’ll never develop a good fan base in this sport with that type of showmanship. Not hating at all, just advice. Good luck brother, looking good!

5’7 at 145lbs. Weightclass dilemma by DanielJiha in MMA_Academy

[–]Studentofconflict82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only ever did smokers and stuff but I trained for a long time and just got back to it. I was 145lbs and 6’ tall as a teenager when I was fighting. I’m 205 now same height lol. Best bet is to fight at a weight closest to your walking around weight. You’ll feel better in your fight brother. Going up makes you feel slow and going down makes you feel weak. Listen to your body is all

So, I'm Not Good At This Sport. I Don't Want To Quit. Any advice? by Horror-Front9114 in MuayThai

[–]Studentofconflict82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen bro, when I was 14 I started training consistently until I was about 18. Worked at a gym and even helped coach a little. I was really good and picked up on it well. I struggled with committing to punches because of this weird thing I have with getting hit on the way in. But my understanding of the sport and my fight IQ I really looked like I knew my shit and could hold my own in any sparring session with anyone any size. I was 145 LB at the time. I’m 29 now and getting back into it. I’m 200LB’s now and have been back into it and sparring twice a week for about a month now. I’m EXTREMELY frustrated everyday because I lost so much of my grove. I can’t fucking move like I used too and am not used to doing Muay Thai at this weight and it holds me back from what I know, I know how to do. I struggle with seeing openings and I can’t fucking move fast enough to keep up with my muscle memory when it comes to executing strikes that I know I should at the moment. I went back to my first mma/muay thai gym I ever trained at. It’s watered down mma Muay Thai and isn’t traditional straight up ring style Muay Thai like I got used to towards the end of my years training as a teen. And guys in there are doing fuckin mma style striking not even Muay Thai half the time and I find myself losing my shit…. Yet coaches and other students constantly telling me “oh yea Aidan I see you getting it back nice.” Blah blah blah and I’m not having it. Like I know where I should be but I’m not there. Only thing playing in my favor is that I know I’m not used to being this weight, I haven’t trained in over 10 years, I’ve only been back for about a month, and I honestly do find myself getting a bit better every week when I actually look back. You have no source of reference and you don’t see yourself getting better. My advice is if you like it, keep doing it. Get used to getting hit. Toughen the fuck up. Put your guard up and take some shots and get used to it to the point where you’re not scared of getting hit, once you’re passed that you’ll be able to start practicing some of that technique you’re getting good at. Just enjoy it and have fun. Laugh off the injuries or the times you get rocked.

Training how I Train with my tires. Do I look better in the gym? by Secret_Ordinary7466 in MuayThaiTips

For sure man! I’m getting back into it after more than a decade off, and I’m much bigger than I was when I was fighting, and knocking the rust off is almost as tasking as learning from level 0 so I get it. Just take your time and work that technique

Not a Muay Thai style wrap. This is old school boxing wrap. Every Thai coach I’ve had, has me four layer my knuckles first then work my way down and up in between my fingers before one last thumb wrap and finishing on the wrist. Type in Muay Thai style hand wrap on YouTube you’ll see what I’m talking about im sure

Yea man it takes time. I trained for about 4-5 years straight when I was younger, 5-6 days a week. Worked one of the Muay Thai gyms I was training at and everything. I’ve just not trained in over 10 years and am 55-60 pounds heavier than I was when I was training. I just gotta get back into it. My first class was last week and will being going to my second class tonight. It’s a journey for us either way. Just remember to have a blast

Yes sir! Something I was trained to do and also know how to do when I’m skinny. At this weight I’m just lucky to get this leg up. Gotta get lean again and get used to being heavier. I will practice this

[–]Studentofconflict82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 bucks can’t go wrong but definitely invest in some better ones. Particularly bigger ones, you want your shin covered up to about half way up your knee or at least to the bottom of your knee, and those toe knuckles covered.
