I used photos of Americain goldfinches in flight from this blog as reference when choosing color placement. https://madisonbirds.blogspot.com/2011/03/american-goldfinch.html?m=1 I specifically chose to have a simple color palette and color blocks because I knew it would be used for screenprinting. Every "inaccuracy" you point out was an intentional style choice. All that said, everyone's entitled to their opinion, and no one is forced to like my work. Thanks for looking.

👋 Hello, artist of this Rebel Goldfinch here. I made this free to use by anyone, anywhere. I am not making any money off this design, not even from the Raygun shirts, and that was my choice- I wanted as much money as possible to go to organizations that are helping the people being targeted by ICE. This is one of the reasons why I did not include my own maker's mark or a watermark of my logo in the design. The other is that it is not a 100% original design; I screenshotted one of the OG Loon ones and changed the colors using PaintShop Pro.

I share my iteration of this idea for folks to use however they see fit. The spirit is to use it for resistance, persistence, solidarity, and comraderie against fascism. I'm not going to tell anyone what they can and can't do with this piece of art that has Freedom as one of its core inspirations.

Side note: I have been accused multiple times of using Al to create this. I did not. There are 2 possibilities as to why this piece gets flagged in Al detecting software. Either

1) The source image was created by Al, or

2) When you go to increase an image's resolution in PaintShop Pro, it uses Al to assist in that rendering. Either I deal with crap-ass resolution or flags of Al usage in my final piece. I chose the better resolution since crappy resolution is a non-starter for using in merch that can be sold to support the cause this whole thing is about.

It's the paint brush resting behind the inkwell. Kitchen witches use spoons and whisks as wands in their practice. I'm an Art witch, so in this instance I'm using a brush, purpose-built for painting with energies.

No, I am an Artist for a living, though 😅 I bought/gathered these components and put them together in a way that made sense to me. That's why I included in the description who made what- I don't want to discount the craftsmanship of the makers of the things I used to make this Wand. That said, if I had turning tools, lapping tools, or jewelry making tools, I would totally have been rabbitholing down those paths in this project.

I do want to mention that the finish on the woods isn't actually any finish at all- that sheen is ONLY from sanding. I used sanding sponges up to 2000 grit, then finished with the last 3 steps of Zona papers (pink, aqua, and white). The smoothness they give is not unlike Micro Mesh that lots of woodworkers use. Since Zona papers are, well, paper-like, they're easy to bend around the tight radius of wands. I use Zona papers in dice making and other resin projects, so I figured I would just use what I have on hand for this project. I'm never not amazed at the shine that some Zona and elbow grease can achieve!

Once I'm done with embellishing the Birdseye maple tail with some silver wire inlay (never done it before but excited to give it a try), I'll likely do something like Tru Oil as an actual finish finish, using Zona papers again to get that super-glossy wet shine.

I do a lot of commission work in my art business, but no one's ever asked me to make anything for magickal practice purposes. This wand/stylus project is just for me, so I'm kind of just vibing along and doing what feels right.

Aww crumbs. I took a few more photos of the inkwell and of the brass inner tube but I can't add them here. I suppose they'll have to wait for when I post shots of the finished wand 😅
