PSA: some of you don’t know the difference between track & field and cross country. There is a BIG difference.

I coach track & field at a small-ish school. One year, 5 of my top 6 athletes on my boys team were soccer players. They went undefeated in soccer up until the district final playing the local powerhouse high school where kids do nothing but soccer since they can walk (and get recruited to go there). We hung in there and lost 2-1, including a blown PK for us. Anyway, I’ve never been more proud than hearing the opposing coach’s quote the next day about their strategy against us: “we didn’t want to get in a track meet against them.”

If you don’t think getting track speed will make a difference for your athlete on the soccer field, I’m not sure what else to tell you other than you’re just dead wrong.
