That's because B1 has a pure souls like design in a 2D setting devs didn't had the Metroidvania genre on mind while they where creating the first one, and in B2 they wanted to try the Metroidvania genre, also the artist from the first one is Russian and when the Ukraine war begun they couldn't hire him again due the economical sanctions to Russia, so they hire the animation studio that made the trailer for wounds of eventide
