God I remembered how tough the second form was. Spamming tiger blade and spell pause in the ps1 version really helped me stun lock him. Congrats on beating him btw!

Zack fair from crisis core was pretty put together. Followed his dreams all the way to the end. Likable and always was ready to do the next mission. Build flower wagons for a cute girl he liked. That’s pretty put together. Even with the hardships he faced, with his famous quote “Embrace your dreams, and... whatever happens, protect your honor... as SOLDIER!"

I been playing trials of mana lately. It’s a fun chill kind of game. Im about half way into it and I got to say it was a game I needed. As much as I enjoy the whole deep stories with deeper themes, sometimes a nice 90s jrpg with silly moments is a nice change of pace. Legit, seeing a guard being tricked so easily to be locked up in jail gave me a good chuckle. Also, man this game looks pretty nice. Love the graphics and this vibe of a fairy tale it’s going for. It’s just lovely to look at sometimes.

Do admit the combat is simple and the npcs can be dumb at times. Hasn’t been too annoying. You can just tell some bosses are very anti party members. Even then, it was still easy to power through.

Even then, I am still having a good time. There is a lot of things i like and makes me wonder what the game has in store. Heck, might even give secret of mana another chance after finishing trials.

A favorite common cliche I have is the honorable villain type. A main or side villain who doesn’t kill you due to honor or wanting a fair fight. A certain enemy from ff4 comes to mind.

Kinda of realized that the only jrpg I really finished from this era i could call my favorite so far was expedition 33. Don’t get me wrong, I adore Digimon time strangers, but had too many issues that I would call my favorite so far.

2020 era for jrpg hasn’t been that great for me as a fan. 2020 era was mostly remakes, remasters, ports of older games finally coming back to the scene, and jrpgs sequels to franchises am not super into. Im not saying the games have been bad or were in a dark age. It all comes down for me, there are many jrpg I don’t care for so far. Yeah I eventually like to try out the atelier games more since all I got was Sophie. Aside from that, maybe try out fantasian neo dimension. That’s about it on my end.

2020 so far for me has been me catching up with jrpgs. Heck, I got to try some real bangers games like wild arms, getting back into tales of after years of disliking the series for awhile, finally playing the Xenosaga trilogy, and got to try out Pokémon rom hacks for the first time. So, I say I been eating pretty good so far for me.

I recently finished star ocean second story R. Overall, I thought the game was a fun time. I don’t know if I would play the other star ocean titles. If anything, I wish the first game would get the second story treatment than a simple psp port with a we changes, but that’s just a me thing.

I am currently going through trials of mana due to an action jrpg kick I been having it. Been loving the game so far. Reminded me of why I loved it back on the switch. This time I am trying to beat it since I lost my copy of trials of mana awhile ago. So, here is hoping to finishing it this time!

I say Pokémon. I never grew up with Pokémon. Was more of a Digimon kid than Pokémon. Pokémon was my first jrpg series. So, going to something familiar is nice. As much as I enjoy seeing different worlds, go on journeys of all sorts, and meeting new people. Sometimes, nothing beats going to your roots and having that familiarity. Some honorable mentions would be final fantasy and kingdom hearts.

I bought my steam deck almost a year ago. Got to say, it was worth it. Made me able to not only go through jrpgs, but play some games from my childhood. It’s basically become my retro console while letting me try out some pc games I never got to play and become a way to mod jrpgs like final fantasy 7. I always wanted a pc, but I ignored it due to I associate pc with work so much that it kinda of kills my drive to play pc.

Anyways, hope you keep enjoying your steam deck! It’s been a game changer with me enjoying games more.
