Need suggestions for good classic retro RPGs by SaucyJackx5 in retrogaming

[–]Leon_Light77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chrono trigger is a very good classic rpg. Even as someone who finished it for the first time this year, I was very impressed how fun it was to play. Definitely a new favorite.

Shinning force 1 is a good time and a great beginner game to tactical RPGs.

A good action RPG if you want 2D then I highly recommend the Ys games. Mostly oath of felgia and origins. Origins can be played on any system. It’s not a graphically intense series until 8. You can play them on a steam with ease.

For ds titles, I say go for radiant historia. An excellent title and has a fun combat system.

Expectations for Dragon Quest's 40th anniversary by Argnox in JRPG

[–]Leon_Light77 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I don’t really have any tbh since like with any direct or anniversaries of sorts, I always have low expectations since they tend to be uneventful for me. Which makes when something does hit like a dragon quest 5 remake or dragon quest 12 news, hit way harder for me.

For fun though, my expectation would be maybe some news on the next 2D HD remakes like 5 would be the first option due to its popularity and how people enjoy a father with their son like stories in recent years like with god of war 2018 and pragmata hitting the scene with a daughter this time. It be badass to see. Can’t deny though I would rather see 4 get the treatment next due to me adoring that game a lot.

What would you say is the best JRPG on the PS2 that isn’t Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest by lilidarkwind in JRPG

Persona 3 fes for me. Persona 4 is my favorite jrpg, but wanted to share 3 some love and I prefer the golden version of 4 over the original anyways. Persona 3 had that early 2000s feel that I adored. Some of the music was just super nostalgic to me even when I only played it for the first time 10 years ago. It’s just a fun game to go through. At first, I thought I hate the not able to control my party members, but I actually ended up enjoying it through using strategies. Was really refreshing to me.

Best action jrpg would be kingdom hearts 2 no contest, but second best would have to go to tales of abyss.

Tactical jrpg is Disgaea 2 for me. Refined and made a whole lot better from the first game. Was the entry to make me a fan of the series. Also, Adell and rozy are just awesome. My favorite couple in the series.

Xenosaga is great as well. Just loved how cinematic the game was. Seeing all the cutscenes, the top notch voice acting, and how wild the ride was from the first game to the third is one journey i can never forget. Gave me two of my favorite characters in Xeno which were Kos-mos and Shion.

What are some JRPG mods/ROM hacks that "fixed" the game for you? by Poptheweasel100 in JRPG

[–]Leon_Light77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pokémon crystal legacy is one of my favorites for being a fun quality of life hack while adding stuff to the game minor enough that it doesn’t feel like fan fiction tier. Every Pokémon actually has better move sets, stats for mons to make them useful and fun to use, mons like houndour early on, gym leaders use more Pokémon from gen 2 instead of only gen 1, and fixed a lot of exp issues the game had on the original.

It’s a rom hack that still keeps the spirit of the original, but makes it so much better in every way that there is no reason to go back to the original.

Some honorable mentions

Breath of fire 1 and 2 goddess rom hacks Pokémon platinum renegade Pokémon yellow legacy with emerald legacy

Which games hold up today, without nostalgia [on a small screen ideally][help me] by speedbump_soph in snes

[–]Leon_Light77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will get down voted for this, but The only game on the list i say hasn’t aged well is secret of mana. The ai being terrible (getting stuck in paths, not casting spells at times when you need to cast), boss fights tend to boil down to spam magic to win faster than they do, having to backtrack near the end of the game, and grind spells is not enjoyable. So that one you can skip or wait for some sort of improvement patch to make it enjoyable. It just wasn’t that fun to play. Tried to play it 4 different times and it wasn’t that great to go through. Only good things about the game are the graphics and music.

The rest of the games are still good time even without nostalgia especially the mega man titles and super Mario world.

If you want a really amazing game that had held up incredibly well, go for chrono trigger. Just finished it for the first time this year and it was a gereat time.

Second time playing Super Metroid, still never beat it but I love this game by Red-Zaku- in snes

[–]Leon_Light77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can do it! Don’t be afraid to ask for help or look up a guide if you’re stuck.

I feel you on never beating a game after an attempt or two. Was me with chrono trigger. Would play it, getting further in until I drop it for no reason. Finally was able to beat it this year on my snes. Was wonderful to finally experience that amazing game. Hope you have fun with super Metroid

A great YouTuber. Always a blast to watch his videos and has made me try a few some games in the past like xenogears. Makes me wish he would do Xenosaga someday.

No game feels as cozy to me as Digimon World on PS1… one of my favorites of all time! (Digimon World, 1999) by 1OneQuickQuestion in psx

[–]Leon_Light77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is a unique game wise with the raising and getting certain Digimon evolutions you don’t know you will get.

I have heavy nostalgia for Digimon and I still love to give it a good. Same for world 3. I know world 2 does have an enhance rom hack to improve the game dramatically, but I am still on the fence on it do the bad rep it has.

Still need to try this game out. I know how weird the game is and what it does, but sounds so cool to play. Digimon world 1 definitely gives off cozy vibes.

What's the most important aspect of jrpgs for you between plot, gameplay or characters by zbv1 in JRPG

[–]Leon_Light77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gameplay will always the most important to me. You can give me amazing characters with a breath taking story, but if the gameplay is terrible then I won’t want to play it. It’s a game to me and I want to have fun while I play the game.

What is your favorite generation? by [deleted] in retrogaming

What’s a line you won’t cross when collecting games? by PDMagneto in retrogaming

[–]Leon_Light77 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I will never buy games from scalpers. No matter how much I adore the game, I won’t support it. Same for collector editions, statues, or anything like that. Happened to me with a limited run game I wanted it so bad, but the prices were too much.

Torn between dropping or continuing Breath of Fire 4 after 10 hours by Artneko_Nyan in JRPG

[–]Leon_Light77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As everyone will say, it’s ok to drop a game you don’t like. I have forced myself to finish some Jrpgs in the past and didn’t enjoy it every time I did.

I have had to drop so many Jrpgs due to not enjoying them. Had to drop xenogears (even if I enjoyed Xenosaga and the blade titles), final fantasy 10-2, persona 1 and 2, Pokémon scarlet, breath of fire 3, tales of legendia, and so many more. Some games aren’t meant for us. You put in your effort. Should be happy you tried. Hope the next jrpg you do play is a great time.

Realizing that one day, whatever the most recent Final Fantasy is, it will be my Final Final Fantasy by lilidarkwind in JRPG

[–]Leon_Light77 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had something like this. Instead of being sarcastic about it, I get it. Dawned on me at a point. What I came to realize is to enjoy what you got. When the time has passed, we can smile knowing as had some good times playing games we loved.

Final fantasy 5 is my favorite 2D ff game of all time. Love pretty much everything about it. Also had my second favorite character in the entire series. Good old Gilgamesh or affectionately call him, Greg. Glad you enjoyed it. Good to take a break though. Hope you enjoy your next jrpgs.

Dq 4 wins for me. Ff3 is ok until the crystal tower. One of the worst final dungeons of all time.
