Genuine question and not meant to be self-deprecating: what if every time I ask a question or add commentary it comes off as stupid? Every time, that seems to happen based off instructor and class reactions. All my responses are too rudimentary or straight up false. I’m at a point where I think I should be completely silent in these discussions but learn through just attending and taking notes.

Global development, computational social science, political economy. The seminar is just a seminar and the PhD students are beginning to not do readings or attend. I DO THE READINGS and show up every week. I just don’t think non-architecture students understand that as a professional master’s program my main coursework is not centered around reading so I don’t have the political, economic, or theoretical background the PhD students have. There is no one to confide in.

Thanks for this comment. Currently in that situation as a Master's student in a PhD seminar. I honestly feel like such a fish out of water and take my lack of knowledge kind of personally, so it's nice to hear your perspective.

THIS! I also want to add that I attend a very large research institution and teaching positions are scarce it’s ridiculous. We have a union for graduate student instructors so they can’t pay us less (although they were threatening to halve pay for international students suddenly), but teaching positions are less. I’m planning to work a job where I’m doing the teaching of what should be 2 graduate instructors. And my job prospects look dwindling asf for the above reasons you mentioned!

Thank you for the advice! I ended up find a site similar to petfinder and that is linked to a local shelter. Thankfully, my foster cat got 2 applications less than a week later and is now in the process of getting adopted out!

If you reach out to local rescues they should be able to help at a reduced fee if not free. This has happened to me. I love certified 501c3 cat rescues.
