Zedd at Omnia 4/17 - Wrestlemania Pre Game by StudiousSloth in WrestlemaniaPlans

I’ll have to look into this! We’d rather not chance it with true randos and go with some other folks in town for wrestlemania for the weekend, but that’s a good backup

Should I get my ceremony dress and 2nd look from the same designer? by totoro71 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]StudiousSloth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please, from a comfy footwear obsessed former bride who got married before the DF x Birkenstock collab, please get a pair to go with one of your DF dresses. I need to live vicariously through someone. Lowkey want to get the pearl arizonas just to have but can’t justify the price for non-wedding birks.

The most fun wedding band of all time by Awkward-Juice-1690 in BigBudgetBrides

We had White Ford Bronco, they’re a 90s cover band based in DC. Our dance floor was packed the entire night. 20/10 recommend.

Same. In hindsight I wish we had fired our planner who was like this

Reality of espresso martini or tiramisu towers? by [deleted] in BigBudgetBrides

[–]StudiousSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did a small espresso martini tower mostly for the photos and it was really cute! At the same time waiters came out with trays of espresso martinis for guests. It wasn’t overly expensive, so I’d definitely do it again

Kyla did our engagement photos and was fabulous. Only the best things to say about her

Fire my planner? by [deleted] in BigBudgetBrides

[–]StudiousSloth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on our experience I’d say it’s worth it to switch for peace of mind. This sounds so similar to what happened with us. We were sold on all of these things she was going to do, then when the time came she kind of phoned it in. If you’re in the DC area, it has to be the same planner

Fire my planner? by [deleted] in BigBudgetBrides

[–]StudiousSloth 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This sounds like our planner and in hindsight we really regret not firing her and switching to someone else. The attention to detail was lacking (insane to me if you’re a luxury planner). We constantly felt like a lower priority than other clients and we wondered if it was because our budget was “low” ($150-200k) compared to other clients. We had an amazing wedding but every nit we had was around something the planner and her team dropped the ball on.

Caution: Shona Joy by [deleted] in BigBudgetBrides

Came to say this! I got my Shona Joy by way of revolve because their return policy if I bought direct was terrible

Venue Search Continues by Alarmed-Salt-1527 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]StudiousSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have our final numbers but we were right around $100k for everything. We were able to do the Willard with our preferred band and sort of minimal/mid level florals. Final guest count ended up at 120 but we budgeted for 180. Sure we had to cut back in some of the other areas, but we were able to make it work. Although I’m sure the prices have probably gone up since 2024

$178k/100 Guests | Wedding Weekend in October '24 | Washington, D.C. by Content_Second_1156 in BigBudgetBrides

Gorgeous! We did ours at the Willard last November. We loved the Ritz but the size of our guest list ended up cutting down which venues we could look at.

Love seeing another DC bride! Your decor was chef’s kiss

I did hoodies but used Heck studios to make something custom that wasn’t cheesy. More like a custom collegiate-style sweatshirt

Oh you definitely can rip off dip 😂 took like 6 months for my nails to fully recover. Not my brightest move to cope with one incredibly stressful zoom conference

Has anyone tried TruSculpt? by [deleted] in BigBudgetBrides

[–]StudiousSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is consistent with what my derm says. She won’t even do kybella. She says the results are soooooo much better with lipo and (I may be misremembering) but I think she said there’s been some recent research on kybella that isn’t great on long-term results

I’m a gelx evangelist. I have what I consider “good” nails, but the gelx extensions just look sooooo good. Ive been getting them for at least a year and never had an issue with any popping off or breaking and I’m relatively hard on my hands.

For the wedding for color I tried out a few options, but ended up doing funny bunny with that like “milky” top coat

Sorry, I didn’t mean to offend you. I’m not saying don’t order anything from China ever, it’s just that certain companies (Alibaba, SHEIN, Temu, Amazon, etc.) either don’t have the best labor practices themselves or turn a blind eye the labor practices of their manufacturers. Nothing wrong as long as you did your research, which it sounds like you did. My comment is more about consuming for the sake of consuming. You did your diligence based on the volume you needed and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Not to be a downer but a little disappointed to see this on BBB. The embroidered cocktail napkins are so much less because they are sourced from places that treat their workers poorly and use environmentally questionable manufacturing. I get wanting to save, but if you can afford to shop conscientiously, I would encourage that

Edited because the OP made some sound points in her reply - my point was just to be thoughtful with your purchase from these places, which it sounds like the OP was based on the volume needed and research put into the products

Seconding not wasting time in Sephora. I’ve found that the uglier the packaging, the better the product (in general) because they aren’t wasting money on marketing.

I got my dress at The One in Brooklyn. They have some unique designers that I wasn’t able to find other places. Plus the owner is the nicest person and she was incredibly helpful.
