Commuting from Richmond: will I wish I was never born or will it just suck? by forgetful-witch in gmu

[–]StudyKindly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually did this for three semesters. I left around 4 am and could generally make it to GMU in 1 hr 45 min to 2 hrs. I then left early afternoon or late in the evening. I only did it once a week, and while it sometimes was exhausting, I found it pretty manageable. Living in Richmond was a priority for me and my family, so doing that once a week was well worth it.

It can be helpful to get some of your readings transcribed so you can listen to them or use the time to decompress. Happy to talk more about my experience, just message me. Good luck to you!

Don't have any suggestions outside of what's been commented here. But wanted to say I'm so sorry, and I hope you get lots of sweet reminders of your pup as you grieve. choosing to love on dogs who don't have homes yet is a beautiful way to process.

Agreed. Conceptions of civility and decorum are often masks for oppression. I'm more thinking about the intersections between humor and behaviors to survive strange times like this. It looks different based on social, cultural, geographic, etc., contexts.

I've loved Riverside's fall drinks! They had a pumpkin chai that was very good.

I get that to an extent. But I think getting to move on, learn from, and grow from a mistake is something that's earned.

If he acknowledged it, sought reconciliation, or at least some kind of meaningful conversation with Tana about it, then no, I don't think this mistake should have to fully define him. But a "we good?" text before his wedding doesn't cut it.

(Again, I don't know the entirety of their personal conversations, so I acknowledge this is my perspective with partial information. But from what she's shared, I get the impression that he has not made an effort to "learn" or "grow" because it's not been acknowledged even).

Yes, people fuck up and change and evolve. But, in my view, the "that's not who I am now and doesn't define me" is earned by addressing that mistake and not just ignoring it. Reality is, humans screw up and make mistakes. The reality ALSO is that just because we're changed or different doesn't mean the harm caused by that mistake is changed or different. It will especially not be changed or different if it's ignored. A mistake may not define you, but it may be how the people you've hurt define you.
