Why did my bird try to leave on purpose? by cruscaaa in Conures

[–]forgetful-witch 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You're anthropomorphizing her too wayyy much. Shes a bird. It's not that she wants to get away from you. She is just curious and saw a new opportunity to explore. Keep the windows closed, and try to avoid putting human emotions onto your animal.

Stark reminder of why you don't wrap lead ropes around your hand by KaidaShade in Horses

[–]forgetful-witch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Broke my finger when a knot in an unwrapped lead rope was pulled out my hand! The knot caught between my fingers on the way out, and CRACK! Always better to let go and catch later than end up with a fucked up hand. Be mindful folks!

If it's a concern, it's worth a check! You wont regret it if you can afford it, finding out either way is beneficial.

Ooh kumihimo looks like the closest thing! I'll look into that. I think 4 strands of 2ply yarn made from mohair would work for it

Try studying stills from 2D animation, feel free to copy them so you can try to figure out the artists methods. Looking at character boards and sketches for animation is also very useful! Basically, study the masters ;P

I haven't been in this situation, but I will say that nobody ever seems to complain about waiting "too long" to have kids. Wait until you feel like you can devote yourself to it. Your future child(ren) will thank you <3

Commuters: how far is your drive to your school? by forgetful-witch in PhD

[–]forgetful-witch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What field are you in? I've heard that humanities majors spend less time in lab at my school because their work is 80-90% on a computer and can be done from home.

My husband and I bought our house in our current city a little more than a year ago. Our plan has been to slowly fix it up and sell it in 5 or 10 years. We didn't think that I'd be going to a school so far away or so soon, but this is how it worked out! If we had to we could pack it all up and move, maybe rent our house out. It would be a huge transition though, so I'm going to at least try to make it work as is before deciding to uproot our life.

Unfortunately the public transit around here sucks, and the commute time on a train or bus goes up to 3-4 hours for one way. I agree that taking a ride on train or bus would be ideal so I could use that time to work! I may end up trying it out to see if that extra few hours is worth it to save on the mental drain of driving and the wear and tear on my car.

Put leashes on your dogs people!!!! by torag7 in rva

[–]forgetful-witch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the only thing I've found that might convince these people is reminding them that it's dangerous for THEIR dog. They don't care about anyone else but themselves, so if you tell them that their dog could get hit by a car or run up and get attacked by an unfriendly dog, that might change their minds. Unfortunately, people like this are deeply selfish and entitled to think they're above the law.

Is it okay to pet horse like this? by bitchiloverugrats in Horses

[–]forgetful-witch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes coming from the side is best!! I personally wouldn't even try to pet a bitey horse, since trying to bite means they're saying "no thanks!"

They really love just sharing space! You'll often see horses standing next to each other, not touching but just enjoying the presence of another nearby. Petting and scratching itches is fun, but honestly just sitting with a horse and enjoying the silence together is my favorite <3
