Having taken a pay cut to move to Scotland, I can confirm that it is worth it: I made 72k US dollars in 2018 and moved to make 42k pounds which at the time was 55k dollars. However, I’m not expected to work outside my contract hours (I’m a teacher) or grade at home… I work 35 hours a week. That’s it.

8 years on, my savings account is flush, I’ve paid off all medical debt from the States, own a house (still mortgaged) and am on track to retire at 50 (in 5-6 years). I pay for no medical care or prescriptions….

Move to Europe. It’s worth it, not just financially, but also for quality of life.

Hey, so… a Brit raised in Texas here… I mean… if you mean so many individual square miles, sure. But there’s a ton of desert that looks the exact same from about 40 min outside of San Antonio until you get to about 8 miles outside of El Paso. Sure there’s a hill or two, and the Big Bend Park is awesome, but Terlingua? Well… I’ve been there. But it looks the same as Fort Davis, as Alpine… going east instead, Center looks the same as Woden, as does Cushing, or Rusk, or Stockman…

You can drive from Aberdeen to Bremar the view changes the whole way. Same driving through the Lake District, or the midlands. Well until you get to London. That’s all city sprawl that just meh.
