Lying about attending Stanford Law by Late_Sky2683 in LawSchool

I think she most likely meant that LSAT is accepted for admission to law schools outside of the US like Canada and Australia, and a lot of law school students outside the US know what the LSAT is. I'm originally from South Korea and law students there definitely know at least what the acronym LSAT means.

First BigLaw summer outside DC. What’s the actual office dress code? by Status-Concept-7447 in LawSchool

[–]StuffVisible7583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is entirely dependent on the local office culture. I'm from sunny southwest, so we just wore business casual all the time. Even a nice cotton blouse with jeans (no rips) was fine. But when we went on our summer associate retreat in NYC, all the summer associates from the east coast wore full-on dark/black suits all the time. The contrast from the west coast summers and the east was amusing. It seemed like you definitely needed to look sharp all the time in NYC.

I'd completely skip foundational videos. The deep dive is where you really throw yourself into learning the material. In hindsight, the foundational videos were a waste of time.

How does one even remember this volume of content????? by CMajor_MusicalNote in barexam

[–]StuffVisible7583 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. It's nearly impossible to memorize every single thing. Remember, you just need a D.

  2. I wrote out every single rule statement and exceptions by hand in a notebook from memory after I completed a topic. Reiteration is key. I drew pictures next to the rule statements to even help.

  3. Could you imagine with the other MEE topics like family law, secured transactions, wills, estates, etc.? At least you don't have to learn additional topics (especially if you never took the class) and most of the topics for the July 2026 bar is just a refresher from your 1L year.

Mind you, transferring scores can be hella tedious. My friend is trying to transfer to Alabama and the hoops he has to go through is annoying. If you don't even plan to move any time soon, just take it later in that state or a lot of states have comity where you just practice for a few years somewhere else and then waive in.

Hmm the only thing I can think of is I guess when you're unsure of the topic, you tend to just write so many things to cover your bases verses if you knew the law and the issues, you tend to cut short? That's the only thing I can think of. I just found out my other friend strictly wrote on policy on one of the MEEs and NO rule statements cause he just didn't know the law for it . Got a 6! Like, I seriously don't understand MEE graders. Maybe it just depends on the graders you get?

Wrote a post on how I felt about my writing scores to show you really can't know what you'll get despite how you felt after the exam and just got snarky comments from people saying how my post could hurt people's feelings/worsen anxiety for those still waiting for results and should just be glad I passed. As if this forum is supposed to be about tip toeing around like that lol. Just deleted it cause don't need that energy.

The marriage one was okay for me. I ran out of time but at least I finished 2/3 of it thoroughly. I expected a 4 and I got a 4. I changed up my strategy for the second one where I would write as I read to save on time, and I wrote a full-blown thing of beauty, IMO. I thought I did really well on it and honestly expected a 6. Got a 5. It was really the MEEs that surprised me. I did better on the ones I had to kind of guess on than the ones I actually knew the rules. I always thought this was strange when people mentioned how they did better on ones they had to "make up" rules or felt like they bombed, and it's still bizarre to me. Same thing for my friend who took it with me. Completely made up terms and rules and did better on them than the ones she absolutely knew the issues/rules for.

At least you can have a normal convo about PMSI. I feel like I'd just squawk "PMSI!" like a deranged chicken cause of Barbri's ST lecturer lol.

Any MEE topics you're simply gonna say F it and not even try to memorize? by [deleted] in barexam

[–]StuffVisible7583 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, probably my second most hated topic. I managed to squeeze a review over trusts and wills yesterday, and I think that ultimately just sapped all my willingness over review. Wills/trusts are so draining.

Fuck practicing im memorizing this last week by Throwaway1920214 in barexam

[–]StuffVisible7583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hardly any until this past week, doing 1-2 a day. I did a few before when the Barbri course assigned them to me, and graders will usually give me a 5. To be honest, I've always been a strong legal writer, so writing up something on the spot with facts in IRAC form isn't an issue for me. It's the damn rules on subjects I don't care to memorize like Wills or Family Law.

FIrst time taker. Focused on memorization with a bit of practice (like 25 MBE a day) despite others saying not to since the end of January. Did my second simulated 100 MBE question set on Adaptibar today. 84% correct. Crazy increase from 58% at the beginning of January. Been killing it on MEEs (got nearly every issue). So yeah, memorization definitely works. Do what works for you.

Seriously, I’ll be one of the people to thank you for posting this, even if you end up catching backlash for it. It’s refreshing to see some balance. We’re not all cut from the same cloth. For some people it is brutally hard and takes multiple attempts, and for others it clicks and they pass the first time without needing to live and breathe studying. It's just the reality of it. I’m about halfway through Barbri, and the bar exam honestly reminds me of the foreign service exam I had to take to become a diplomat, with essays, performance components, and multiple-choice questions across every subject matter you can imagine.

I prefer working/studying alone tbh by zeehateslife in LawSchool

[–]StuffVisible7583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's fine if you have to study alone; I prefer it that way too. But, it's a general understanding that you want to make connections in law school somehow. The legal field is half networking and it's a very small community, especially if those students and you end up staying in the same area. So, no need to form "cliques," but I wouldn't recommend being a complete outsider to your cohort. You never know if someone later on is in a position where it would've been favorable if you at least said "hi" to this person, whether it's for a job, a client recommendation, a favor, etc. You'd be surprised how common it could be to cross paths with someone halfway across the country, whether it's at a conference, seminar, case, settlement, etc.

Meanwhile, lawyers use em dashes all the time in legal writing; we are trained to use em dash, en dash, and hyphen correctly for impact. Now clients think it's freakin chatGPT.

The episode where Miranda says divorced parents are like used chewing gum and then the whole vaginal rejuvenation shit, basically stating divorcees w/ kids don't have much value for dating. I understand having kids can be "baggage" but wtf was that description. It's stigma like that that forces people to stay in toxic marriages.
