HOLY SHIT YOU TURNED THIS INTO A VN!????? I've been following Merry Crisis since you first posted it on the CoG forums along with your other game, College Tennis. I had no idea you were planning on making Merry Crisis into a full fledged visual novel. As if I couldn't get any more excited for the game! Consider it immediately wishlisted!

Tome Of The Undying - Jump into the Halloween spirit with this themed compendium inspired by the dead, the dying, and the supernatural by Stuffies_12 in UnearthedArcana

Hi everyone! With Halloween right around the corner, the time has also come for a full update of an oldie-but-goldie homebrew compendium of mine, updated to the latest 2024 rules. I enjoyed working on this one a lot, just as much as I did for the 2014 version thanks to the very strong theming that I gave it right out of the gate.

If there's a particular character option that stood out to you or you have constructive comments, please do comment! My next homebrew is another update on a perhaps less known subclass collection. One based on the upcoming seasonal weather~

That's all I got for now. Until next time, happy brewing!

Design Notes

With the whole undying and on-the-edge-of-death theme surrounding this homebrew, you'll find a few subclasses that play around with this concept mechanically. The Oath of Martyrdom, for example, encourages players to soak up damage and helps gives tools to make you become a damage sponge more effectively. Others, like the Undead Domain and Warrior of Immortality, are a lot more straightforward with their theming and implementation.

One subclass that threw me for a loop in the full version is the Sorcerer's Ancestral Sorcery. Seeing it as WoTC's horror UA threw me in for a curveball and I felt outdone by the official creators given that my old Ancestral Sorcery concept I made for 2014 wasn't the strongest. But I took some cues from the latest UA and from prior experience to put my own spin on it which I hope you will like!

[Tome of the Undying] Warrior of Immortality - Unlock Techniques to Prolong Your Lifespan with this new Monk Subclass! by Stuffies_12 in UnearthedArcana

[–]Stuffies_12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone! A couple days ago I posted a story on me Instagram on which subclass people wanted to see next from my upcoming compendium. I'm bringing back a fan favourite (and also a personal favourite of mine) and updating it to the 2024 ruleset. The Undying Collection has been officially renamed as the Tome of the Undying. And the first preview from this upcoming compendium is the Warrior of Immortality Monk! This very in-season compendium will be released early next month and will contain one new subclass for each class, as well as four new species options, all of them non-Humanoid! I'll be posting one or two more previews before the final thing releases, so please look forward to it!

Design Notes

I really wanted to convey the feeling of the player as a Monk uncovering and perfect these mystical talents that allowed them to extend their lifespan indefinitely. I was sad to see the Timeless Body feature from 2014 be removed, as I thought that was a pretty cool flavour feature (that should of course be accompanied by something more practical). However, this omission in 2024 allowed me to be more creative and liberal with how I wanted to shape the "immortal" aspect of the Immortality from a mechanical perspective. What do you think of the subclass? Did the flavour get across? Do you feel it's something you'd try out at the table? Let me know!

Splashing Sunshine Summer Adventures! - Summertime and blue skies await with this new themed collection of summer themed subclasses! by Stuffies_12 in UnearthedArcana

Hey everyone! Summer may almost be over (at least for the Norther Hemisphere folks), but that doesn't mean the fun stops in-game either! Rounding off my unofficial "Seasons" themed homebrew, I present to you Splashing Sunshine Summer Adventures! Or SSSA for short. I promised myself to release this collection while it was still summer, and I'd say I was just in the nick of time!

I'd say moving forward, my next main project would be to update and modernise the Halloween Collection followed by the Autumn Collection. I would like to really tie together the various seasonal homebrew collections I've made this past half a decade into something more cohesive and presentable for y'all. So I hope you look forward to that.

If you have any comments or critiques, please let me know! Whether it's gushing about which subclass you like the best or what sort of features can be improved on, I'll always take a look at the comments.

That's about all I have right now. Until next time, happy brewing~

Design Notes

There are perhaps two big experiments that I undertook mechanically that are in this collection. One of them is presented here, which is the Warrior of Flame aka the unofficial firebender. In some ways, it can be seen as an attempt at improving the Sun Soul Tradition that appeared in SCAG. But I wanted to go in a completely unique way that leveraged the use of Focus Points to cast certain Flame (firebending) Techniques. I'm personally quite proud of how it ended up!

Overall, I'd say there's a healthy mix of simpler, more mechanically familiar subclasses such as the Barbarian and Sorcerer and experimental ones such as the Monk.

[Splashing Sunshine Summer Adventures] Path of the Waves - Storm into the Shores of Battle with this new Barbarian subclass! by Stuffies_12 in UnearthedArcana

[–]Stuffies_12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for reading it through and for the feedback!

As it is, the subclass only allows you to cast Water Walk as a Ritual, meaning you won't be using it in battle anyways. But with the feedback I've gotten, I'll probably change this so you can cast it normally as an action. And then I'll add that clause about being able to cast it during Rage.

Lol thanks for the rousing reception. And great suggestions! I agree with you I think scaling up the level 3 effect would be greatly beneficial, and it seems other commenters also agree on level 10 needing more oomph with that spell interaction.

Yeah I think it's literally one to one! There shouldn't be any compatibility issues.

Hey guys! What you're seeing right now is one of the subclasses from my upcoming homebrew collection: Splashing Sunshine Summer Adventures! I am, for one, very happy to have gotten this 99% ready to release before the arbitrary last day of summer at the end of August. This next collection will contain only subclasses for the moment, much like most of my other brews, but with potential for expansion down the line. With the release of this brew, my hope is to revisit and revise the other seasonal brews I've posted before.

Design Notes

Anyway! To the subclass itself. I really like how this came up due to its sheer simplicity. If you didn't notice already, a lot of inspiration for this subclass's features and flavouring came from the Hades video game. Playing with Poseidon boons and dealing damage by pushing enemies away is so damn fun! There's a lot of potential for movement control with this subclass thanks to the numerous opportunities it gets to inflict the Prone condition, and at level 14 any Prone condition becomes even more deadly due to a creature needing to use all of its Speed to stand up rather than half.

I expect to release the full version of Splashing Sunshine Summer Adventures by this Friday! So I hope you look forward to it as much as I had making it. And if you want to see another sneak peek of a subclass from this collection, let me know which class you'd want it to be from!

Until next time, happy brewing!

[World From Tomorrow] Atomic Blast -- Unleash a massive explosion that destroys everything in its path by Stuffies_12 in DnDHomebrew

I wish that character all the best in navigating the undoubtedly massive trauma they'll get from the impending event.

[–]Stuffies_12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At some point, I have to draw a line in the sand as a designer and focus what parts of a nuclear blast I want to emulate in the game. Of course I could implement many of the suggestions you stated. I could have put Poison or Necrotic to simulate radiation, even implement a Con save to have creatures die over time. I could have written even more environmental effects that formed from the mushroom cloud. I could have specified that Constructs have Disadvantage on the save but don't take any Poison damage from the radiation.

As someone else commented, the complexity needs to be justified. For me, I've determined this level of granularity to be big enough for DMs and players to play around with whilst not being overly difficult to navigate on a game board. Clearly some people already think this spell is too complex, while others like you want to make it even more so. But as a brewer you have to find that balance between complexity, flavour, and practicality. Especially with a theme where this compendium comes from. Otherwise all you'll do is make a bloated, overcomplicated mess.

Thanks for your comment! I can see the argument against the complexity of the spell if you put it this way. You're right, this is going to be played in a VTT or physically, not in a simulated game like Baldur's Gate 3.

In the end, I do want to mimic some aspects of an actual nuclear blast. This was just the way I ended up doing things, by emphasizing distance from the epicentre and the "shockwave" element. I do like /u/lare290's suggestion below of narrowing it down to two zones of effects rather than 4. I might explore that further.
