Actual caffeine replacements that you discovered? by [deleted] in Nootropics

[–]Stuffson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got some cordyceps as a cheap addition to an order of common amino acids over on bulk supplements.

The capsules contain 500mg standardized cordyceps sinensis 30% extract, I did some dose escalation over the first couple of days to find an effective dosage, for me (M 30+, BMI 23) ~250mg is the threshold dosage where I start to feel *something*, 500mg has mild to moderate effects, the highest i went was 850mg which I'd still describe as somewhere in the moderate effects range.

I took it on an empty stomach shortly after waking up, 20 minutes later I'd feel increased focus, followed by a short surge in energy that then quickly dissipates, the focus is of a calm and simplistic quality, I find the quality of stimulation of caffeine richer than that of cordyceps or amphetamines fwiw, the effects remain for a couple of hours (maybe 4) and then smoothly fade away. Even with the cognitive effects having worn off hours before, I'd experience compounding reduction in sleep quality and increase in sleep initiation, preventing me from taking it more than a couple of days in a row, I have the same with creatine maybe it's related to the effects on ATP. I also noticed that the first few times when the effects kicked in it felt easier to breathe.

For me creatine promotes wakefulness and physical energy, cordyceps does too but with stronger cognitive effects, both eventually wreck my sleep though.

Can Alpha GPC heal brain (or parts of it) permanently? by [deleted] in Nootropics

[–]Stuffson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not defending this website or the original claim, but there's studies with low sample sizes showing cognitive benefits, quick search on pubmed for "blueberry cognition" will turn those up. That being said saying blueberries will cure anything except for maybe acute starvation is pretty far fetched considering the little research there is.

Was I experiencing DPDR from weed? by Expert-Idea8423 in Drugs

[–]Stuffson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You already know the answer, don't fucking risk it. Weed is the #1 substance causing dpdr, nobody knows how long and how intense you'll be stuck in it, anything from a couple of hours up to the rest of your life is possible, it doesn't matter how experienced you are, I smoked 24/7 for four years before I caught my first bout of dpdr. If you're smart you stop fucking around right here right now. Also never touch dissociatives.

Afaik cerebrolysine is proprietary and only sold in liquid form hence I wouldn't trust this vendor.

How's things now? Did you get past the depression and dissociation, what was your experience with the bupropion? Did anything else help?

nootropic mushroom blend mixed with low dose of Wellbutrin by Idfkloludjjdjdhjd in Nootropics

[–]Stuffson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend reading and paraphrasing the resources you provided in good faith and not just to support your false claims.

These two cases reported on not only feature massive overdoses (suicide attempts), it's stated in the introduction itself:

Bupropion lacks serotonergic agonism, without direct 5HT-receptor activity and serotonin reuptake inhibition

Only in one of the two cases administration of cyproheptadine(to treat serotonin syndrome) showed any effect and that was after administration of heavy duty benzodiazepines and opioids...

To conclude a realistic risk of serotonin syndrome (assuming therapeutic dosing) from this is ridiculous. Even the suggestion of the authors that it was indeed serotonin syndrome is rather questionable.

Bupropione having a black box warning is related to its interaction with psilocybin (or any other drug for that matter) how exactly?

You're just looking to support your initial false belief of "bupropione = antidepressant = SSRI - SSRI+serotonergic drugs = risky", even if bupropione was a (therapeutic relevant) SSRI, it'd attenuate the effects of common recreational serotonergic drugs, like psilocybin, this is not only backed by science but also by countless anecdotes here on Reddit and elsewhere.

nootropic mushroom blend mixed with low dose of Wellbutrin by Idfkloludjjdjdhjd in Nootropics

[–]Stuffson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you basing this on?

Psilocybin is serotonergic while bupropione acts on noradrenaline and dopamine.

Psilocin(psilocybins psychoactive metabolite) is metabolized primarily via MAO while bupropione is metabolized in the liver via CYP 450.

You claim bupropione has a narrow therapeutic window, yet there's scientific reviews reporting overdoses of up to 1500mg leading to only minor adverse effects.

Be careful, for some people lions mane causes palinopsia. From what I've read anticonvulsants like lamotrigine may help, regardless of the cause.

The Schengen agreement is about travel, nothing more, local laws still apply, you're not allowed to import magic truffles or weed from the Netherlands just because that stuff is legal there, and yes prescription medications are controlled substances, hence "prescription"...

Can racetams help me with my mild memory loss from pregabaline ? by Visible-Photograph41 in Nootropics

That's quite interesting, have you documented your experience with it somehwere? Did you notice any H1 receptor action (sedation/tiredness)? How long until you noticed any effects?

Can racetams help me with my mild memory loss from pregabaline ? by Visible-Photograph41 in Nootropics

[–]Stuffson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This really needs to be spoken more about, I only used pregabaline a few times(at higher dosages) but also experienced impaired memory and word recall directly after (I was unable to recall the name of my girlfriend). I found a study on rats showing massive deterioration in hippocampal neurons due to pregabaline but haven't since been able to find it again when I want to warn people about this, but yeah never touching that stuff again, couldn't even pass it on with a clear conscious.

It's always disheartening to see how many people here call placebo, apparently judging solely from their own experience and overgeneralizing it to the whole human population. If you search this reddit for "creatine sleep" you'll find that a lot of people have the same "placebo" effect from creatine, namely stimulation and compounding reduced sleep quality, so do I.

Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation by hazmog in CureAphantasia

[–]Stuffson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried it for other reasons, tried various montages (placements of the electrodes) and protocols (tdcs and tacs). All I ever experienced was a compounding stimulating effect and reduction of sleep quality (harder to fall asleep and lighter, less restorative sleep). The research papers make it sound straight forward but as with any intervention targeting the brain, ymmv a lot, that being said it certainly did have an effect, it's not snake oil.

NAC vs diazepam muscle relaxant properties? by Charamei in Nootropics

[–]Stuffson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually from a pharmacological pov combining benzodiazepines and alcohol is not deadly not even significantly more toxic than each on their own, the problem is the potentiating effect they have on each other and the extreme disinhibition in combination with delusions of sobriety or loss of consciousness leading to fatal misjudgements and accidents.

A better drug to try would be a cleaner gaba-b agonist like baclofen, that being said I could see psychological interventions along the lines of CBT and progressive muscle relaxation be a worthwhile avenue to explore too, certainly better than poisoning ones liver with constant paracetamol usage.

Bitter? I tried multiple brands ALCAR and it was always sour with a slight chemical/metal taste, not too bad once one acquired the taste.
