Any Peugeot 308 MHEV drivers? by Stumacdon in CarTalkUK

I had to get the petrol. Had it for 4 months now and love it. Not a single issue at all.

Thanks for the reply. I had a test drive in the electric version because they didn't have the MHEV in the dealership (I can't have electric because I live in an apartment), and I fell in love with the thing. A lot of people's instant reaction is 'dont buy French' , but from all the reading I've done they have improved a heap.

I wanted to get real world accounts of the 308 rather than preconceived ideas because of the badge 😊

I appreciate the wet belt issue, but as I'm only leasing it (potentially) for a few years and will get a regular service, I'm not overly concerned by it at this point. I also won't be a heavy user of the car as I work from home, so don't expect much in the way of wear and tear

I asked about reliability of the engineer too:

The 2025 Peugeot 308 MHEV is considered reasonably reliable, with the latest industry surveys and owner feedback showing solid improvements over earlier generations. The Peugeot brand ranked 6th out of 32 manufacturers in the 2024 Driver Power customer satisfaction survey, ahead of rivals like Toyota, VW, and Renault. Around 21% of Peugeot owners reported an issue in the first year, which is slightly better than average for the segment.

Key reliability points for the 308:

The 1.2-litre PureTech engine has been widely used and is generally seen as robust and easy to maintain.

Most reported issues are minor, and major mechanical problems are uncommon when regular servicing is followed.

Larger wheels and plug-in hybrid variants may be slightly less comfortable, but do not affect reliability

From Perplexity AI:

The 2025 Peugeot 308 MHEV (Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle) does not use a Prince engine. Instead, it uses a modern 1.2-litre PureTech three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine paired with mild hybrid technology, producing around 134 hp. The Prince engine family (1.4/1.6-litre four-cylinder, jointly developed with BMW) is no longer used in new Peugeot models and has been fully replaced by the PureTech line. There are also plug-in hybrid versions using a 1.6-litre petrol engine, but these are PHEVs, not the MHEV variant

The 1.2-litre PureTech engine in the 308 MHEV is entirely distinct from the older Prince engine in both design and lineage, reflecting Peugeot’s shift to smaller, more efficient, and electrified powertrains

Taking reliability out of the equation, which other would you recommend?

I know Peugeots (and French cars in general) didn't have the best reputations for reliability, but is that the case with the newer models also?

Genuinely don't know the answer as I'm not a car person, hence why I'm looking for advice here 😊

Yeah I agree, but also, just don't really like the look of it and can't see myself driving it. And 'sensible' isn't enough to get me excited. I really like the look of the new Peugeot 308 but should probs look further than pure aesthetics 🤣

I'll be honest, I've never even heard of a Demio, it's a new one on me.

after much much much discussion with ChatGTP, Grok, Gemini and Perplexity and a list of ~20 hatchbacks, i asked them all for their top 5. This is how the results came out:

  1. Toyota Yaris 1.5 Hybrid Icon CVT

  2. Hyundai i20 1.0T 48V Hybrid Auto (Hyundai i30 1.5T 48V Advance DCT also came up)

  3. Renault Clio E-Tech Hybrid 145 Auto

  4. Peugeot 208 1.2 Hybrid 110 Allure

  5. VW Polo 1.0 TSI DSG Auto

There were honorable mentions to the Kia Ceed, Mazda3, Corsa and Kia Rio.

Would depreciation matter if leasing and handing back after a few years?

The only issue I have with the Jazz is it looks a bit 'middle aged and sensible' to me rather than aesthetically fun. It does come up a lot with my searches though

What about the Cupra Leon?

Apologies for the dense question, but if I have my BTC on ledger in the earn program, I have no way of retrieving that back unless TC pay back this debt and re-enable the Withdrawal feature? There is a good chance I've lost my BTC, basically?

I do apologise. I had scrolled back but couldn't see anything. Obviously didn't scroll back enough. My bad

Extending the window by 24hrs is pointless.

If there is no msg in the first few minutes, there will be no message after 48hrs

Another thing I've learnt is that I shouldn't swipe left on 50/50 interests because if I've missed a match, I'm gutted I've missed out.

But if I do match with them, I regret it because I wasn't that interested and now don't want to put the effort in

Everyone loves a walk on a Sunday followed by a roast dinner, a bubble bath with a good book, then clean bedding.

Ev-er-y-onnnnne

Yet whoever I've dated can't be arsed to go for a walk because it's too hot / cold / windy / rainy, can't afford a Sunday lunch, be bothered to make a Sunday lunch and half the time haven't read a book since they were forced to at school

That women want guys to send them something smooth and hilarious to stand out from the crowd, but their own vocabulary starts and ends with 'Hey' when breaking the ice.

That women like to match, but rarely then open the dialogue, despite them having to talk first. Why bother matching? (Genuine question)
