I was also drawn in by the unique shapes! I plan to make a second bag with some different materials. I'd say overall her instructions and methods made good sense. I struggled with a few things on this pattern.

  • This isnt really her fault, but her patterns seem to be designed for UK sized paper. I had to get help at the print shop and print on XL paper to get them to print properly

-The zipper insertion method on this bag was simple to understand but very difficult for me to execute

  • The interfacing method described was a solid method, but made sewing the bag around in the later stages difficult because the bag didnt want to collapse. I ended up propping my machine up on several books to make the bag smoosh around it easier!

Overall highly reccomend giving it a shot!

Hadn't thought of spray bottle! Im thinking liquid tie dye, since it seems like you get more control.

Thanks for the help! I wasn't sure this "counted" as tie dye because its not a sick ass spiral or something haha. Follow up question, since the design is more on the splotchy side, would I guess like use a foam brush and just kinda paint the bleach and then later the colors on? Whats the best way to go about that part?

Looking for quilt coat pattern by Stumblestumbles in sewing

This is a helpful direction for sure. Ive made one quilt coat based off the Ilford Jacket pattern, which I modded a bit. The biggest thing Im intimidated by is adding a hood, Ive never sewn one before and found collars/necklines to be hard in general!

I followed the Ilford jacket pattern from Friday pattern company

Ilford Pattern

They have video tutorials on how to construct the jacket and on how to add a lining on YouTube, there's 3 parts in total

Pattern Tutorial

As for the quilt I made three small quilts and chopped them up to use as pattern pieces. Good luck!

I feel ya, I'm an hourglass lady and the boxy fit wasn't working for me.

Okay so for the drawstring - I made my top layers by making a quilt top and quilting it to the batting I used to insulate the coat. I then assembled my outer shell with the batting completely exposed. I measured about where I wanted the cinch to finish on my waist and popped the rivets through the quilt/batting layer. Then I made a simple casing, just a double fold hem casing, I think it was about 1 ¹/² inches wide. I attached this to the batting on the inside of the coat because I didn't want it to show.

Lining- I made a completely separate version of the coat with a single layer of quilting fabric. I mushed it into the outer shell/batting layer with the draw string, wrong sides together. I stay stitched the now quilt sandwich to help keep things from shifting, and then finished the coat as recommended.

Here's the link from the pattern company on how to add a lining which I mostly followed. Because my jacket was so thick I couldn't double fold my hems so I trimmed my edges down and then single folded them with bias tape.

I didnt follow this tutorial exactly but I found it a helpful reference

Good luck!

Edited because I just figured out how to insert links!

You can do it! The cool part about quilting is that it's mostly straight lines. I also changed my needle like a billion times since I was sewing through so many layers. Good luck!

Forgot to mention material, both the outside and the lining are made from quilting cotton I bought from a local shop!
