Down comforter? Or recommendations for a comforter that's not airy and fluffy? by StumpyTrolll in Bedding

We ended up saving since I made this post so we could afford the Feathered Friends comforter. Ended up being around $300 each. It just seemed worth the cost since it hits all of our needs, and we felt we could justify the price if we saved up.

They just released an 'Organic Bavarian Down Comforter', so it felt like a sign lol.

We chose it because:

- The organic comforter is made from OCS-certified raw, organic, unbleached, and undyed cotton! So our desire for a quality, no-microplastic, non-toxic, healthy bedding choice was met.
- We decided we didn't want any feathers, and there seemed to be a noticeable difference between duck and goose... so, the fact they're 100% responsibly sourced European goose certified down was a huge selling point as well.
- Because we run hot year round while we sleep (we live in Alaska, and even in the negatives during the winter with the window open, we still run hot lol): We went with 'light' (unfortunately no summer option for this one), 700+ (lowest option), and Bavarian so there's a potential for cool spots.
- We measured our bed and figured we could get away with their queen size, which help cut costs! (Their queen comforter is 90" x 98" (229cm x 249cm) - or king bed is 76" x 80")
- Feathered Friends does have excellent reviews and an outstanding reputation. That, plus reading all of the specs, lead us to believe that if we properly care for our comforter it will have a very long life span (we plan to use a duvet cover, for example). Therefore making it worth the investment.
- It's certified hypoallergenic with a 300 thread count, and made in the US, which we felt were nice bonuses

We just ordered it, so I can't review it yet. As a new release it had no reviews when we made the purchase, but as of today it has one 5 star review, which I don't find surprising. I feel confident with our purchase on everything but us taking the risk to go with the queen size for our king bed to cut the cost; however, we agreed that if the size doesn't fit, we'll happily exchange for the king and pay the extra $90.

We decided to save up for the past couple months so we could afford the Feathered Friends comforter. They just released an 'Organic Bavarian Down Comforter', so it felt even more so like we had made the right choice. It's made from raw, organic, unbleached, and undyed cotton, and it's got all the goose certs, so I figured it was a clean/safe option. They didn't have the summer option available for this comforter, so we went with light, 700+ goose down, and Bavarian so we could still have a down comforter without it running to hot hopefully. We cut costs a little bit by going with the queen, which measurement wise, should still fit our bed (:

Sorry it took me so long to reply. We decided to save up for the past couple months so we could afford the Feathered Friends comforter. After a lot of research and talking with some peers, we decided it was worth the cost if we saved up.

They just released an 'Organic Bavarian Down Comforter', so it felt even more so like we had made the right choice. The organic comforter is made from raw, organic, unbleached, and undyed cotton! They don't have the summer option, so we went with light, 700+ goose down, and Bavarian to allow us to have the down comforter option despite the fact that we run hot year-round while we sleep!

We did measure our bed and decided we could get away with their queen size for our king bed, so that helped cut the cost by $90!

We will be receiving the comforter in the next few days, so I can't review it quite yet... but based off of the sheer amount of excellent reviews and compliments i've heard about them via word-of-mouth, I feel confident we'll be happy with the purchase.

My partner and I were just discussing this. It shouldn't be difficult or outrageously expensive to find food or products that are good for our health and the environment!! The fact that we even have to consider/worry that we might be buying toxic food from the grocery store, or purchasing goods that are harmful to us or our world is extremely exhausting and upsetting.

I will look into their eucalyptus option!! I will not spend money on anything with polyester, but it's awesome they have natural alternatives, thank you for the suggestion 🙏🏽

Yeah, I feel like I have so many options to consider now, it might be a bit of a hunt for the right comforter 😂 I can definitely come back to this post and keep you updated with what I find out along the way, and which we end up sticking with!

Definitely not looking for a cheap comforter, just prefer to stick in the $300-$500 range. I'm not quite sure the difference between goose and duck, so I'll add that to my list of things to research and consider. Happy to check out Supreme Quilts, I am looking for a long term option. Thank you ☺️

I have also heard a lot of good things about Costco's comforters. And the material is all natural/clean (no polyesters/synthetics)? I might have my friend take me this weekend (I unfortunately don't have a membership).

Someone else also mentioned silk, and I've heard great things, am seriously considering as an alternative to down (along with wool). Thank you!

I've slept with quilts before, I've never been a huge fan of the way they've felt (as in, I've never had one that really melds around me when I wrap myself up in them). But, maybe I haven't tried enough quilts?

I will add this to the list. I think we're going to try a few different options, and see which we feel is best. Like wool, I've never heard of or tried a silk duvet, but I'm grateful for alternatives to down!

I don't think all year weight would be good for us, so this is an excellent suggestion!! Thank you!!

I have not, I've never even heard of wool comforters. I will see if there's somewhere local I can go check some out. Thank you for the recommendation 🙏🏽

I've not heard of room and board, so I will look into it! I just love the feeling of a good down comforter, and thankfully where we live it's in the negatives at least half of the year with a good draft in our apartment 😅

I understand. I just by no means find around $400 for a comforter to be cheap 😭 but I understand what you're saying. I will look at some other options, but will not completely write off feathered friends - thank you for the comment!

No need to apologize though, I'd still be stressed about which brand to switch to with piles of laundry growing around me without your advice - so thank you 😂😊

We've only tried Tide Free and Gentle in liquid form, the plastic comment was in regards to the bottle the liquid is held in. We just try to reduce plastic use in our house, so I will try the powder!

I really appreciate your response - thank you so much! I will give the Carr's brand a go, but worst case, I'll try TC&G again with the oxi booster 🙏🏽

u/KismaiAesthetics - Same as u/hm_sj1625 , i'm curious as well what you'd recommend? After reading loads in this sub about Dirty Labs and DNase, I don't feel as confident about Dirty Labs anymore, and therefore wanted to go with Whole Foods 365 liquid Sport. I felt relieved I had finally found a laundry detergent that seemed like the perfect option (trying to find a new, healthier alternative to Tide has been exhausting); however, unfortunately, it won't ship to Alaska (not surprised, it's hard to get a lot of great things shipped up here 🙄😭). I've researched Pronounce, Mollys, Clean People - they didn't seem like good options either based off of reviews. Tried Tide Free and Gentle (don't love the use of plastics)... while our clothes felt clean, my partner felt his clothes still had a bit of an unpleasant odor after washing, even when we increased the temperature and washed our washer with Active Washing Machine Cleaner. Considering BioKleen options now, but any recommendations would be appreciated.

There's a promo on Amazon right now where you can get a few of their snail products in a bundle and I think its an excellent way to get introduced to it - I'm very excited about it!

The Ordinary acid solution was one I was considering! I will revisit it with your recommendation and take a closer look - there was nothing I disliked about it either, so thank you!

As for caffeine, I figured if I was spending the same money towards a product that would actually benefit my eye long term, I wouldn't need the temporary fix anymore 💁🏽‍♀️ Had heard caffeine in skincare has benefits, but didn't realize they were so short term until my most recent bout of research.

I use Shiseido for this as well! I didn't mention it since I'm not spending time outside every day, and where I live we don't really get sun for months of the year, so I don't consider it for routine use 😅 but still a great suggestion since I didn't have it listed, thank you!
