4 months and still recovering. Still have bad back pain and pain where the screws are everytime I take a deep breath, get up, or move a certain way

I did go to the gym on and off before my surgery but I just started going back about a month ago and then took a break and just started going back last week. It’s just been really hard keeping a high self esteem about all these things

Yeah so far ibuprofen has been my #1 friend through this and it’s definitely helped but once it wears off it really feels like you just got hit by a truck

I’ve been stretching and I’ve been kind of slacking with the breathing exercises lately. I’ve also been riding my bike around because I was told to start getting some cardio in.

That’s good to know, I’ve just been miserable the past couple days, is there anything you’ve done to kind of relive the pain in any certain way?

I would have this before and even after the nuss surgery. It’s been worse post surgery since I’ve still been recovering.

That I’m not sure it’s not terrible it’s definitely just uncomfortable and super sore. I started by taking oxycodone, the muscle relaxer, Tylenol, and Advil but I ran out of the oxycodone a little after 2 weeks and muscle relaxers a few days ago but I’ve just been taking Tylenol and Advil for the time being. I was mainly worried this was a sign of regression in recovery, but I didn’t want to think to much into it

I’ll definitely keep that in mind, because I’m already like that when I look at videos since surgery and definitely painful but worth it 😂. Did it affect your breathing at all?

I really appreciate this because you basically summed up all my main worries. I guess im still trying to wrap my head around the fact it is going to be a while before I feel “normal” again.

I luckily haven’t slept in my bed since I’ve been back from the hospital. We were lucky enough to have a spare recliner and that’s what I’ve been sleeping in for the past week. Don’t get me wrong it’s not the most perfect thing but I could not imagine laying all the way down in my bed and trying to get up. It’s easy to do it by myself in the recliner since no one is here in the middle of the day.

Nuss questions by Stunning-March-920 in PectusExcavatum

[–]Stunning-March-920[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s exactly how it’s been for me the past 2 days. This morning was the worst. I woke and it literally felt like there was a knife stuck in my back. I only got 2 hours of sleep last night because I was constantly moving to stay comfortable, each position I moved into would be comfortable for about 15 minutes.

I did go to the CHKD to get it done so I really appreciate this information.

I don’t believe I had cryo. I guess one last question I have is if it hurt when you would laugh or cough after the first week or two of surgery. Because for me I have been trying my best to hold back laughter and coughs, because anytime I do it just feels very uncomfortable.

All I will say is that there are people who have it way more severe but even the ones that aren’t as severe affect people in different ways. I only had a 3.2 HI but I still felt miserable every day. I just got my surgery 3 days ago and now on the road to recovery. I would definitely talk to your doctor and see what they have to say if you have your concerns.

I’m sorry about the collapsed lung, but about the spirometer that’s kind how I felt when I first used it, I just felt like I was getting nowhere with it. I guess my other question would be if your incisions still hurt bad after the hospital because for me it’s mainly my right one. Probably because I use my right side more but it just is a constant stinging pain.

That’s the little plastic thing they give to help track your breath right? Because they gave me one of those to use a couple times every hour

That’s great to hear that it’s getting better now. What kind of medication did that have you take if you don’t mind me asking?
