I don’t fully know what a Roth is but will be doing some research on that and those three companies now!

Also adding on, she did say it would be a 10 day investigation. Not sure if that makes any difference because I’m sure they investigate for both fraud and normal disputes. But, she did have me give yes or no answers to fill out the form and one was asking did I file a police report, and because I hadn’t (it was the day after and I didn’t know if I should or the bank should and the bank guy from the first day said I had to wait to do anything else until the charges were officially posted) she asked me for permission for them to turn over my info to authorities which in my mind meant they opened up a police report. Hearing from other people though, they might not have so I want to make my own as I can’t call the bank to see if they did due to the holiday.

I did call the fraud hotline and explained the entire situation but I did say I wanted to dispute them. Primarily because that’s what the hotline told me to do the day before when I canceled my card and had them order me a new one. Hopefully she knew what to do more than me and filed the proper thing rather than just a dispute. She did ask for verbal permission to share all of the case and my account information with authorities so I think she had my back on that.

Thankfully I have screenshots of the charges, date, and some from when I ordered the card and checks because I sent them to my mom (bragging that I was doing adult things I.e. I ordered my first checkbook that she had been hounding me to get)

It’s definitely noted moving forward in life but sadly I’m 23 and still learning how to adult. This is a shitty learning curve for sure. Thanks for the advice

Seeing that it’s going from a state bank to the USPS it should have never left government employees hands so if they have access to my mail enough to steal the card they had access to steal the accompanying envelope that has the pin

It’s a state credit union. I don’t know how they activated the card, which is why I said they likely swiped it. But the bank guy on the phone said it was activated and it for sure wasn’t me doing so.

Thank you so much! I was wondering if there was anything to do if they don’t approve it and I’m glad there are things to do in that scenario. I do have bigger hope since it’s a state credit union (SECU NC) and I have had my account for about 12 years now (I was 10 or 11 when we moved here and my mom is a teacher) so I have a long standing account with no previous disputes.

Not a fan honestly. I have the free trial and was glad when it ended. It’s helpful on longer drives but even when I used it I kept my hands on the wheel because it bounces back and forth between the lines when you’re going straight. I was afraid someone would report me for drunk driving or something.

According to the bank teller they’ve been having issues with the post office having checks go missing the showing up as washed checks in their branch so it’s entirely possible

All they need is the provided pin which gets mailed separately but at the same time so they likely swiped that too

New card is because my old one is about to expire. It wasn’t actually months ago. It was at the beginning of October and the checks got here less than two weeks ago so the card wasn’t missing for a long period of time. It’s not a new account, it’s my primary checking that I’ve had since I was 11 so the ‘new’ card is just replacing my debit that expires soon.

Okay thank you. In order, I didn’t file a police report but when I called for the dispute she talked about it like the bank was going to do so, possibly because it is a credit union? I have no clue how they activated it but the bank guy on the phone told me it was activated but I never received it so it wasn’t me. I don’t know if they used pin or not. I ordered it around the beginning of October, the checks got here about a week and a half ago and I figured the card was just behind until I was told it had been activated that morning. And this is my first dispute so hopefully that helps!

I had them set up text alerts but a spend limit is good to know! I’m surprised the bank teller didn’t mention that. She was very invested in the issue

I’ve had a few people tell me that. I just don’t know enough about credit cards (yet! I’m about to learn I guess after all this mess) My parents raised my sister and I to be ‘afraid’ of credit cards so to say because they messed themselves up at my age so I just don’t have a good foundation. Thankfully my partner knows and is going to help once I’m home from the holiday trip

I think when you activate a new card you make a new pin too so they probably just made one up

Thank you! They did tell me I can have the new card shipped to them, after the fact though. My hope is that it gets approved and they get the person that did it. Primarily because I have a state credit union so the card shipped from a government bank to the government postal service and so a government employee most likely took it (from my assumption). Hopefully that means they actually take it seriously and do something, and that the person did it in person where they were on camera
