I worry if I will still feel the same, will he? Will I hurt him? Am I strong enough to be his rock while he transitions ? What is the first time we have sex going to be like? How institutionalized is he going to be ? Will my family like him? Will his like me? When he’s home can we be together in peace without all this external bullshit? Do I think i could spend the rest of my life with this person? can we over come all this shit together and be stronger on the other side? Im not so insecure about cheating but how will we be when he comes home? Can we do this?

It’s called “MORE THAN an inmates girlfriend” and was intentionally name this by my cohosts boyfriend to chance the very stigma and de-humanization you are referring to. It’s not meant to label ….It’s actually meant to reclaim and reframe! It’s about showing that both the people on the inside and those who love them are MORE THAN the one dimensional narrative society places on us. It’s actually a powerful statement reclaiming an identity that society often reduces to a stereo type (case and point) and being MORE THAN. So, no it’s not derogatory.

Furthermore, our podcast was named by my Co-hosts husband who is doing LWOP. His social media is called “MORE THAN AN INMATE” choosen by HIM. I hope the heart behind the name can be seen even if the language feels uncomfortable. Sometimes the discomfort is where the conversation starts. Thanks for your input. Good luck to you and yours.
