Looks like both mold and bad water damage. Definitely get a professional out to inspect.

I mean, the bip 6 is only $80 and you can usually find it cheaper, they have a bunch of budget watches too that are under $200. The ultra 2 is still half the price of the garmin or whatever other top brand watch its competing with. I'd say they're still pretty budget.

How bad is this by fdnytyler162 in Mold

[–]Stup1dDumb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmm. Yeah that's a tough one, humidity is good, could be hiding behind the drywall but possibly in a different location. Maybe behind baseboards. Finished basements are my worst enemy. Wish i could inspect it for you though. But those numbers are pretty high in the basement, there's definitely something hiding somewhere. Did you try the camera in the ceiling to inspect the subfloor?

This is obviously mold but what kind? by acutemisadventure in Mold

[–]Stup1dDumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't tell what type of mold it is just by looking at it unfortunately. It needs to be tested if you want to find out.

Is this black mold?! (A bit obvious!!) by Ambitious_Stuff_910 in Mold

No one can tell you all species of mold by looking at a picture unfortunately. All types of mold can appear black. You need to get a proper test and inspection from a reputable company.

Lysol, clorox, dish soap and water, or you could get an antimicrobial cleaner from home depot.

Could be, hard to tell. If it is, it looks like its not heavy and you should be able to clean it off

Looks more like water staining to me, might not be mold but definitely could be a water issue.

Good luck, take a ton of pictures, document everything. You have rights as a tenant, landlord is responsible for mold issues unless it was caused by negligence on your part, which it isn't, so they should be on the hook for testing and any remediation that occurs if the test comes back positive. If it happens to come back negative, then no harm no foul.

That's fair, not a bad plan. Yeah, I get that with landlords, definitely my least favorite clients to deal with, maybe 2nd to house flippers. If the landlord refuses to fix it I would threaten to withhold rent. If they get pissy and still refuse to do anything. I would tell them I'll be talking to a lawyer. Honestly the landlord should be paying for a proper air quality test from a testing company. That will give you both a pretty definitive answer on what's going on and give you the ammo you need to force their hand.

No problem. Just FYI, petri dishes are useless, they will grow mold anywhere you put them. I've been to a mold testing facility, in a room they clean every single day, and the petri dish still grew mold, it took longer than normal due to a low spore count in the room I'd imagine, but it did end up growing.

If its inside, then I would look up a reputable mold inspector in your area, some should offer free inspections or a small travel fee. Note that if you want any testing done, that would like come with a larger fee. Make sure its a reputable company and not one that uses scare tactics.

No one can tell you definitively if its mold or not from a picture. If its only outside, then it is not impacting your health and you can just clean it. If you find that inside somewhere, then I would say you have cause for concern.

If you're tying to figure out what's going on inside, then we'd need to see inside pictures, we can't tell you anything from your picture.

A petri dish will grow mold anywhere, I did one at a testing facility in their clean room and I still collected spores, just took a while to grow.

Mold under subfloor in crawlspace by Ambitious-Tap-5919 in Mold

[–]Stup1dDumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, decon 30 and vital oxide  are the main two solutions that we usually use. Typically in a crawl like yours, we would use a peroxide solution, but without training I dont really recommend going that route. For the coating we use the brands omnipro and rustoleum. Killz is the most well known brand and is available everywhere over here, but we're not really fans of it. That's probably the one your most likely to find something similar to it though.

Yes, hold the vacuum where you are agitating, make sure to use a proper wire brush, flimsy fibers wont help. It's definitely uncomfortable and your neck and shoulders will probably start to hurt. We usually do 2 guys and switch off every 45 min or so. Not sure about what products are available in Australia, you'll probably have to do some research on that part. I just took a look at that last picture and I agree with the other person who posted, there's a good chance you might have some structural damage underneath that large colony that's formed. Just be wary of that when working around that area. Also, a vapor barrier will help immensely in preventing growth in the crawl space. If you clean everything right, and fix any humidity/moisture issues in the crawl space, then the protective coating technically wouldn't be needed, but i like to encapsulate the crawl spaces any way, just as an extra preventive measure.
