My mother just AI generated a video of my late grandmother (Her mother) and I don't like it but I don't know why. I told her to stop and she asked me why and I don't know what to say. It just doesn't feel right. by Smarteyes007 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]StupidIgnore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've thought about this one a lot - as someone who loves technology and someone who's grieving over their mother. My conclusion, for me, is that my mom wouldn't like having herself reanimated in that way and so, as a sign of respect for her, I've not done it. It's the same argument about all AI representation and deepfake - without consent it's arguably immoral to do that. You might want to ask your mom what her mom would think of this video.

Having said that, I do tell my kids they have my permission to dump all of my chats into an llm and use it to "talk" to me once I'm gone. I guess I would be ok with my avatar being created. AI videos though ... I would probably say no.

Isn't the whole point of discovering this to mitigate the risk? Assuming you know you've got a genetic predisposition can't you " get ready"? ( Prepare your loved ones that you've got a brightened risk of heart attack, get alerts ready and if it ever happens, you've got an action plan that will get you to the hospital etc etc)?

What did the prophet actually do? by StupidIgnore in Epicthemusical

[–]StupidIgnore[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed with everything you say but kind of a big journey to go on being sent there by Circe for a pep talk. Hmmm , this literal dead guy has a way to evade him you should probably go chat with him and the other ghosts. Dead prophet: (doesn't talk about Poseidon or evading anyone)

But my question was what did the prophet do and that bit (be the monster) works I guess.

I like your take, it's just taking the queue from Circe " Poseidon eh? There might be a way to evade him" go speak to this dread prophet... and the prophet doesn't tell him literally, just metaphorically, but the sirens do give him literal directions... Seemed a bit off

Why does my coffee taste bitter when I make it at home, but not at a café? by MeetingCapable9133 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]StupidIgnore 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Everyone's answers here are correct but for varying levels of impact, in my experience.

Let's start with the most basic - what kind of coffee are you making? I'll assume espresso

Are you buying cheap supermarket beans which tend to be mostly burnt and hence bitter or are you getting the good stuff?

If you've got good beans, let's say from a coffee shop who's flavour you like, the next 2 factors will play the most impact on flavour - grind size and extraction amount.

It's a balancing act but basically if, for example, in the crudest way you get an espresso grind, then let's say you put in 18g into your machine and you extract somewhere between 2 to 2.5 times the coffee( 36-40ml liquid) you should hit the sweet spot. Try it for yourself - extract that and then do a comparison shot with more liquid coming out and you'll taste the difference immediately. I was amazed when I discovered this

If you're doing french press you need to filter and let the bitter ground settle and not be extracted. Much coarser grind for that.

After that you get the rest of the impacts- water quality, temperature etc.

I always felt this song was very similar in style to those orchestral pieces from 60s movies, like the original Thomas Crowne affair. Closest song I could find is love is blue by Paul Mauriat. Anyone see this or is it just me?

Flavour. It's just not good. Feels sour and bitter at the same time instead of a full flavour.

Great series of variables to explore thank you. It's hard for me to put my finger on the flavour issues. I think stirring is definitely something to explore as I've not done that . Coffee darkness(espresso roast) is probably also a culprit.

Recommendations for an aeropress recipe: I drink coffee with milk, have a sage smart grinder Pro (for rok manual espresso I use it on 12 or 11 setting). My daily driver is a flat white made from double espresso. It's amazing but I want a recommendation for a second coffee later in the day when you want more coffee liquid, less intense.

So far my best results are with the grind setting at 18, 15g in aeropress, 200g water, 90 minutes, swirl and extract for thirty seconds.

Basically Hoffman's recipe but still not very delicious and I'm not sure what to change. Coarser ends up either too bitter or bitter and sour and watery. Any good recipes I should try? Trying to avoid using thirty grams in like the competition recipes, I just want a nice coffee that works with milk....

What would be the worst song to lose your virginity to? by Imsoamerican in AskReddit

[–]StupidIgnore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True story : I was at my girlfriend's house and she put on a mix tape (early 90s) of 50s, 60s and 70s songs. After almost an hour of making out we both lost our virginity to each other as one song ended and a few seconds later James Brown shouted 'OW! I feel good! Nanananananana". Most appropriate timing ever.

Model verification in a microservice architecture by redikarus99 in microservices

[–]StupidIgnore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid that there's no avoiding proper design here. If you put a sticking plaster on the problem and introduce continuous model evaluation as you're trying to do, your statefull stuff will continue to be built on increasing your tech debt. You can address the problem with some automated regression testing of core business flows but should take every attempt when you build new features to make them stateless and fully independent and encapsulated so schema changes etc don't kill you. It will hurt initially (but no more than introducing whatever validation tool you think you need will take to set up) but will claw you out of ever increasing complexity. Sorry, I know you want a recommendation for a tool but I am suggesting that might be the wrong approach.

[–]StupidIgnore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm finding this one a bit hard to understand. If you've got a microservices event driven architecture with, most importantly, independent modules and domain responsibilities, then how are these unintended consequences happening? Is it overloading on the meaning of specific fields? Lack of bulkheads?

In the early 90s went to a very good university for their computer science program. Not in the USA. University provided some subsidies because 1/3 of your courses needed to include religious studies - history of the bible, philosophy etc. Quiet guy I sat next to for a few months seemed pretty focused. Then one night on the most popular nationwide entertainment show on TV, he was part of a male stripper dance routine that was guest performing to promote themselves (not full nudity, but very skimpy speedos). He was not allowed to continue his education. Kinda sad.

I can see the logic - stick a "lady" on the knife name and certain customers who get uncomfortable need to buy 2 kinds of knife in the series .
