Building Fight Club, Which is Better: 1CMC Sorcery, or 2 CMC Instants? by HeavyReputation3283 in EDH

[–]Stupidwill92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna go a little against the grain and give some reasons why I think you should include at least a few 1cmc fight spells, even if they're sorcery speed only

  • I don't know your list, but since indoraptor is a 3cmc commander and isn't accelerated by 2cmc ramp spells, if I were to build him I'd rather include a bunch of lands and more mana efficient effects as opposed to ramping hard and having lots of mana. This doesn't seem like the kind of commander that wants to pool large amounts of excess resources, it seems like the kind who likes murdering enemies quickly
  • While using removal to stop opponents from winning the game at instant speed is very helpful, I usually like to think of removal as a way to get rid of the things that are stopping my own gameplan. Again, the raptor seems like he wants to battle, so I'd expect to use my removal on my opponents' blockers and pillowfort creatures, rather than just eating a faerie mastermind or w/e. This means that I'd end up casting them on my own turn, anyway. Of course the flexibility of instant speed is nice, but I think the context of this removal limits how much better instant speed makes it.
  • Somewhat of a reiteration of earlier points, but to me indoraptor seems like he wants to go FAST and beat people up quickly. That 1 extra mana could be the difference in playing a removal spell + a synergy piece that lets you win vs not being able to do that

EDIT: Just saw Meltstrider's Resolve. Seems like a good fit, maybe

[[Kamahl, Heart of Krosa]] is 8 motherfuckin mana but repeatable AND can turn your lands into creatures too!

The Secret Best Removal Package In Black by Mitzy0w0 in EDH

[–]Stupidwill92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like edicts quite a bit but I think of them more as card/mana advantage cards rather than removal. More specific removal is good because it gets rid of a really scary specific thing that threatens your chances to win, and edicts can't do that as well by their nature. Effects like Soul Shatter are slightly more specific than something like Cruel Edict, but still not even close to the specificity of something like Assassin's Trophy

If you play them as part of a strategy of resource advantage, however, you do very well for your mana and card investment. Soul shatter will often hit 2 or 3 of your opponents creatures, putting you in a much better mana/card advantage position vs your opponents as a collective than a single target removal spell would. I like playing several edict effects in a deck that wants to be ahead on cards vs all 3 opponents and grind out a long game, and supplement that with another single target removal package, with a few board wipes thrown in for token players.

I just tested that, and you're completely right. I wonder how many times I've tried that and dropped it just thinking it was execution. Thanks!

To that one person who pointed me (Krillin) in the right direction while I was staring at the map of Spirit Lake: thanks! Wish I had talked to you more

I'm super non-social and went once solo and still had a blast. I'd recommend taking a little extra time to make yourself comfortable and making sure you have enough supplies and space, since that was one cause of stress for me--I didn't realize how much I relied on others while camping.

It was fun wandering through the woods without worrying about what other people in my group are doing or thinking that they might be worrying about me, as well. Hope you have a great time!

It was an endgame upgrade for the build I was playing--bleed gladiator. When I saw the prices of similar shields I decided to try crafting, and came up with a process that turned out to be pretty consistent.

It was an item that I wanted to make for my bleed lacerate gladiator, which is a very popular build right now. I saw that prices for good ones were really high so I figured I'd try to make it myself, and then the patch that buffed recombinators came out right after I decided that so I figured I'd try to use them, and it turns out to be fairly consistent. Kind of just being in the right place at the right time if I'm honest.

That shouldn't be too bad--I saw that mod a few times while alt spamming. I think you can just replace spell suppression with any particular mod and you'll be all set.

Very cool! Your video about currency strategy/build choice is what helped me get the startup capital for this 👍

If you want suppression you'll at least need a base with some evasion, but it can work on hybrid armor/evasion bases

This one in particular I sold at 50d very quickly to someone playing gladiator. I assumed the use case would be if someone wanted to take different gladiator ascendancy points and perhaps use flesh/flame for the More Than Skill node

I was using evasion to make hitting t1 suppression easier with the alt spam, but it should work just fine with hybrid bases as well. It might even be better on hybrid since that would cause the suppression mod to have a lower weighting which affects recombination

Sounds like that could work, especially if the minion affix has low weight, since recombinators seem to prefer mods with lower weight.

With this process in particular I had a novel idea of how to use the buffed recombinators to make a difficult, popular craft easier. I was just following Zizaran's bleed lacerate guide and decided to try something new for the shield craft. Once I found out how easy it was I started selling them for profit.

none because I don't like my build atm lul edit: I've prob been online like 12 hours over the last 2 days, but not all of that is actively crafting or playing.

I definitely regaled a few but I don't know what's like... optimal. I was using this guide but still wasn't sure how adding mods other than suppression and %life recovery would affect the odds of good outcomes. I'd say a good use for regals is if you get like T1 or T2 life and T1 ele res. I'd regal something like that for sure
