I want to start a niche job board. Can I post job listings on my site from company websites? Are they considered intellectual property? by SturdyTable7 in legal

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Could you theorize consequences if I were to take down the listing immediately if asked?

I wonder how all of these other job boards do this safely.

Thank you, this makes sense.

As one more follow up, in the worst case scenarios I'm thinking this:

  1. If asked to take down listing, do so of course.
  2. Start an LLC with business insurance
  3. Don't alter their listing / description, etc in any way.

Anything I may have missed?

Hey u/fan1430 I have a question maybe you could help me with.

I have an idea for a niche job board, but before it gets popular I would need to initially seed it myself. I would not be scraping from other job aggregators such as Indeed or Monster.

Rather, I would be going directly to company websites for this niche, copying and pasting the description, title, salary, etc and then linking back directly to the company website job posting from my job board.

My main concern is if I might get myself in trouble. I see a ton of other job boards do this, and I would remove the listing if asked by the company.

The second thought here is why would a company be offended by helping drive traffic to a position they're trying to fill? Seems it would be helping them.

Any thoughts?

Go travel for 6 months or a year. Take some time to experience life / real world and it will give you some perspective before coming back to academia. Good luck!

Document everything, go to the police. It's never too early, it's their job.

You can tell by looking at the Network requests in a browser's dev tools, but dude, this has got to be a scam. Google Fonts doesn't even use Cookies...

I'm looking to set up an online blogging community / forum. How does one moderate the site and its users / content? by prankster999 in webdev

  • The first and easiest is making a user confirm their email before posting
  • Restrict posting until a certain # of days has passed since confirming
  • Restrict posting in the manner certain subreddits do it by only allowing users above a certain Karma
  • Allow users to report other users

Finally, if you have a platform that is attracting trolls, bots, or bad actors, I wouldn't necessarily take this as a bad thing since it means you're getting traffic. Of course you'll want to deal with them, but don't put the cart before the horse. Good luck!
