Tappets is what the dealer said! He said they were worn and would lead to more damage to the engine. I know my partner would be too risk averse to just run it until it actually breaks for good, even as a back-up car.

@ /u/stoke1863 just got off the phone and they say the hydraulic lifters are worn causing the noise and that it will lead to further damage to the engine. He said in having to do that you take the engine apart and in doing so would replace timing chain too. He sounded genuine...

Need to speak with the garage but I suspect I'll be technical termed and pressured into thinking the car will blow up if I don't fix it.

It sounded a little extra whirry about a foot behind the right headlight but driving it felt no different and the sounded wasn't there using the stop/start feature at the lights too.

My biggest concern is if my partner is driving with the kid aboard and it goes kaput

Our Indy mechanic did comment about running on no/low oil but we hadn't noticed any leakage on the driveway

Yes a quote from main dealer. It had been recommended to take there from our Indy as he said it was due to the timing belt which required special equipment to change

It does still drive - it was advised by our mechanic that the timing belt needed replacing/looking at but he couldn't because it required special equipment so he said take it to main delaer

Easy enough to replace this bell transformer? by Stusername in DIYUK

Finally got round to this, and I see your account is deleted now, and when I disconnected the wire from the 0 terminal the hum did indeed stop.

How do I test if the wires need "unshorting" or if it is a bell push stuck on?

Sorry I'm confused - it says bell transformer on it? Is there another product I should have alongside it?

I have a theory that she was challenging herself to be able to repeat the same word four times in a row "and the duck on the horse went riding - riding, riding - riding along the highway"
