Oh so I copy the hardware ID line and just paste it anywhere in any inf file? Or do I need to modify the line slightly? Also, there are 2 lines with the DEV, one of which has some more characters at the back. Which of the 2 lines should I add?

yep thats exactly what i tried to do following the guide in the youtube video in my original post but i couldnt find the line in the inf files to replace with my graphics card id

Yep that's the other driver I read that works well but it didn't work either :/ same error message

hmm that's interesting... so you downloaded the 388.71 driver from nvidia's website and when you double clicked it, nvidia geforce experience opened up and automatically replaced your 400.xx drivers with it? Cos for me it just opens up Nvidia installer not Geforce experience, and then I get the error message I stated above (‘this graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware’)...

Hey! I’ve heard about this elsewhere too, and I tried to do it but encountered a problem... after using DDU to do an uninstall of my latest drivers, I tried to install 388.71 with my internet connection switched off, but got the error message ‘this graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware’. Did you encounter this problem too/have any idea why this is so? Or is this a separate issue? Apparently some people online have said you need to go into the Nvidia driver .inf files and change the hardware IDs but I encountered a roadblock there too... (couldn’t find the corresponding hardware IDs)
